Had the Taylor Made R5 for 4 years.
Average drive was consistently 290 yrds. 310+ on occasion.
Can't hit the SuperFast more than 250 yrds. Slices at least 80 yards. Threw it in the corner of my garage. Back to the R5. Waiste of $250!!!!

Model Reviewed: Taylor Made Burner Driver

For the past couple years I have had a love affair with my Nike Sumo driver, until last Saturday when, well lets just say that my beloved Nike driver found its way to a watery grave. Yeah, it was that bad of a round. Yesterday one of the golfers in our foursome brought out his Taylor Made Burner for me to use and if I liked it, I would have to pony up $50.00 for it. I really like the feel of this club although it was slightly heavier than the Sumo and I was not all that impressed with the grip. Yes I will admit it was probably because I am so used to the grip on the Nike Sumo. It's no big deal however. The Taylor Made Burner Driver is slightly longer, about an inch, than my Sumo and the shaft was Stiff. Might cause a problem. The Sumo had a flex shaft which allowed me to whip the club head through the ball. I could drive the ball 240-250 yards and I was fine with that. The Sumo also put me in the fairway more often than not.

So here I am on the 1st tee. The hole is a dog leg right par 5, water to the right and no trouble to the left. I approached the ball, took my normal swing and hit the ball on the toe of the club. The ball took off the clubface and leaked right and landed on the right side of the fairway. I hit that ball 230 and fairly straight. Not my best drive but hey, I was in the fairway. But what surprised me was that I hit the ball off the toe of the club. Impressive.

It took me about 6 holes before I dialed the Burner in. On the 7th hole, I approached the ball, started my swing and made contact with the ball. Wowza! The ball simply exploded off the sweet spot and flew long and straight with a boring ball flight. Now, I am not the biggest hitter in my foursome but that drive put me 15 yards past the big hitter in our foursome. Fluke? Probably. On the eighth hole, yup, hit it flush, and the ball traveled 265 yards with a slight draw. Me likey! I'm just used to hitting a wedge to the green with my second shot. My three competitors just stood there with their jaws dropping. Yeah, I can get used to this. I missed only two fairways out of the remaining 10 holes with an average of 260 yards,

After 18 holes I walked away very impressed with my new driver so yes, I did pony up the cash and it went home with me.

So now I have a new love affair with Ms. Taylor. Nice knowing you Sumo...but yes, you have been replaced....with something better.

Quick Review for those of you on the fence about this club: Buy it. Stop reading and buy it.

I waited for this club to come down in price and was able to get it for $99 at gppgolf. I only needed a few rounds to confirm what others had written about this monster. It is a phenomenal piece of engineering.

The club head has a great shape and sets up nice at address. The ball really jumps off the clubface and has deep, penetrating flight. The slightly longer shaft might hinder some people that struggle with good contact, but those that don't will love the distance benefits gained from increased length.

I have yet to find any flaws with this club (maybe the stock grip? time will tell). This club is still a five star value at $150 - which is what you can find it for at most places. I highly recommend to anyone thinking about giving it a try.

Just bought 2010 TM Burner Superfast and I have to testify- it lives up to the hype. I am 16 handicap and was using a R7 SuperQuad. Frustrated with lack of distance I thought a driver with less bells and wistles (ex. MVT) will give a "hack", like me, better results. If you are looking for distance and forgiveness... this does it! Even though my swing could use some tweaking, this club helps a lot.

I started off with an R5 Dual N that I couldnt hit straight for my life. I struggled to keep my shots as straight as possible, but only ending up with a banana slice. I dealt with this for over a year and during christmas, I got a gifr card from my sister. So I shopped around and did my research and came across this club and am I happy. All together, I only spend about $50 for the club. I took it out to the range today and solid shots gave great results. No balooning and the sound off the club was awesome even though I was hitting rock solid balls. I averaged about 210 with the range balls and cant wait to use my regular golf balls. I recommend this club to anyone who wants to upgrade there driver. *Warning* if you overswing with these clubs, you will be sorry. All you need is a nice, easy swing and I promise the ball with jump off the club.

I had hit this club a few times at Dicks and loved the feel and sound. I owned a starter set of clubs that were Rawling Omega which included a driver. After playing a few years, felt it was time to upgrade something. I went for the driver.I bought this club almost new at 3balls for $79. I drive the ball further and straighter than ever. The light weight feel took some getting used to, but after a few shots at the range, everything felt fine. The head of club is huge, but that doesn't bother me. Had my stock grip changed for Golf Pride velvet and feels much better now. Highly Recommend this club.

I personally hit alot of drivers to see which one I liked, and this taylormade just felt good and through the whole swing. The distance is also a plus, I ganied at least 25-30 yards off the tee. I also felt that I could shape the ball very well with this club, and consistency is awsome. Would highly recommened it to anyone this is a heck off a deal you can go on ebay and find a good one for $90.00.

good luck

Well...I was a little worried that a new club for $150 might be cheap, but the booming drives I just hit today put all that to rest! WOW! I added control and about 30yrds to my drives...not to mention great consistency. The massive head is very forgiving and the sound off the club face is perfect. I love my new driver!!!
