Sonartec TL-01 Drivers

Sonartec TL-01 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

Deep Face (280cc) Classic Shape Titanium Head Graphite Shaft Driving Cavity on sole allows for greater distance and control and a high, flat ball flight. Balanced weight distribution in the perimeter creates more stability on heel/toe miss-hits and a wider sweet spot. Higher/Deeper Center of Gravity (CG) creates a penetrating ball flight with no balloon effect; ball is less apt to be affected by wind. The ball rolls on its drop and yields further distance. Precisely conforms to the legal Coefficient of Restitution (COR) set forth by the USGA; allows for faster ball speed and greater carry.

In spite of this club's reputation as being a "better player's club" and somewhat unforgiving, I found it on the driving range to be very smooth and long. I also play a Sonartec 14* SS 2.5 fairway wood, which I am very happy with, but this driver is the longer club. In terms of sound and feel, the closest thing I have played to it would be the Byron Butler SSTi driver, an excellent club in its own right - but I prefer the Sonartec. My swing speed is about 100mph and I was able to get good distance with this club without having to swing harder than usual. The Penley shaft felt very good as well. This club was purchased on eBay for the princely sum of $40. I can see why it originally retailed for around $500 when it was in production. It has been my experience with Sonartec clubs - I also have a 15 * Md hybrid - that the ball flight is not very high but when hit well the ball comes off the club face very fast and hard and just keeps going. This driver is no exception to the rule.

Just bought this and tried out. Well, its not as great in the distance improvement (well, I would not rate this being a long hitting club), but the flight path of this driver has a slight fade, with quite a decent launch angle. I am currently using a Yonex 350 10.5*, hitting this straight. For those seeking to shape your driver shot, this could be one to try. The major dislike is the flat hitting sound (well, I like the "Ping" sound to indicate a good hit) :)
