Ping i15 Drivers

Ping i15 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The fade-biased design of i15 Driver meets the needs of golfers who place a high priority on working their tee shots. The traditional pear-shaped 460cc titanium head is engineered with a bulge crown design and deeper face to optimize energy transfer for greater ball speed and the solid feel preferred by better golfers. Internal weighting reduces spin and the hosel is positioned slightly back from the face to help promote tour-preferred trajectories and control.

This is a good, deep driver. I was looking for a fade-bias and a premium shaft, so the i15 with the AXIV fit the spec. After using it for the summer there are a couple of things that are worth considering.

First, I cut it down to 44.5". The stock club is nearly 46", too long. That made quite a difference in terms of taking spin off the ball.

Second, tee it high because the sweet spot is high on the face. Take a look at the club from the toe end, you'll see that the crown is very pronounced which leads to a higher center of gravity. That keeps the trajectory down, a good thing. I noticed that I actually hit the ball lower once I tee'd it up a bit.

My guess is you'll be able to get a good deal on an i15 this winter because I don't think it's been a very successful club for Ping (the G15 has been dominant as most folks want a club they draw every time). Probably the end of the line for the i15, not many guys looking for a mid trajectory power fade these days.

Hope this helps.

Long, Long, Long, 11 degree stock stiff shaft. I went from SQ Sumo 2 230 yds on good drives to 275 yds routinely. I hit wedges on Par 4's 400 yards and shorter.

Attention all golfers.....if you want to hit the most awesome drives you've ever hit, buy this driver. I've compared this to heaps of other stuff and there is nothing that comes close. The closest I've got to this is my FT-9. But this thing just flat out bombs it. I'm not long (Ave about 240-250m) but this thing has added 10-15m on my good drives and has helped me gain more confidence that I'm not going to snap hook it. The fade bias is brilliant. Granted, it's not for very high handicappers but it's still pretty forgiving and it feels, looks and sounds fantastic. Try it, you own't be disappointed.

Have owned R7, Nike Ignite and Nike SSQ (all around 9.5 stiff-flex). Wanted more 'cause getting a tad older (now 50). Trialled a 9.5 i15 and smacked it 40 metres past those of my other Drivers, albeit @ lower traj. Ping Van guys let me hit the 11 Deg. WHOA! 8 shots way out there (all fairway in reg. almost 300yds) long and perfect flight/carry. Ordered me a new sucker yesterday. Best ever hit by far ! My buddies will cry, seriously !

Ping Van guys knew what I wanted/needed (had trialled G15/i15 variations for 2 months. No warm up - just smashed all of 'em !

THIS DRIVER IS A BEAST. THIS IS A FACT IF YOU ARE A GOOD BALL STRICKER THIS IS THE DRIVER FOR YOU.
I HAVE BEEN USING A CALLAWAY FTI WITH A SPEEDER 686 SHAFT FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS AND THIS WAS A GOOD CLUB BUT THE PING I15 IS A CANNON COMPARED TO THAT ONE.
IF YOU ARE A 1-7 HANDICAP GOLFER AND HAVE SOME FINACIAL MEANS THIS IS THE DRIVER TO DEMO AND TRY BECAUSE ONCE YOU FIND YOUR GROVE WITH THIS DRIVER EVERYBODY YOU PLAY GOLF WITH WILL NOTICE THAT YOU ARE IN THE FAIRWAY AND THEY ARE NOT.
DON'T LET THEM HIT IT UNLESS THEY CAN AFFORD IT. STEEP PRICE OF 375.00 BUT IF YOU APPRECIATE A SOLID DRIVER THIS IS IT.

No doubt about it, THIS is the BEST DRIVER I'VE EVER OWNED! Wow, this thing is a cannon.

After reading many enthusiastic reviews of the i15 (notably Rankmark.com, Golf Magazine Feb 2010, and this forum) I decided to demo the i15. After a demo day and using a i15 demo on course for 18 holes, I had to have it. Traded in my long and accurate G10 for the incredible i15 and am truly glad I did.

DISTANCE: A+++
I thought my Ping G10 (9.0* with ProLaunch Red, Stiff) was long, but after hitting both side-by-side, I can definetly say that the i15 spins less and sails past the G10 by 7-12 yards.

ACCURACY: A The fade-bias of the i15 is definetly present, but not overwhelming. You can hit draws with the i15, but it is definetley easier to hit fades. I like to hit a straight ball, and the i15 excels at that. I've found my dispersion is tighter with the i15 vs the G10. I think this is partly to do with the heavier weight of the i15's AXIVcore shaft.

FORGIVENESS: A For a 'Players' club, I feel the i15 is very forgiving. I feel it is just as forgiving as my G10 and my Callaway FT-9 Tour.

I'm better than scratch and arguably the best ballstriker on this forum or any other. Let's just say my drives produce the wow factor. This driver is perfect for a great player like myself. I can fade it or draw it, pretty much whatever the heck I want to do with it. Finally a company comes out with a club good enough for me. I've been waiting long enough. You hacks may not be able to hit it but who cares about you anyway?

I am not a great golfer, but I hit the ball long. Just like the previous poster said, my bad drive is a hook and I tend to hit the ball too high. The i15 appears to have corrected this to some degree. I would say that my bad shot still hooks but not as much, and my good drives generally have a lower trajectory.

Model Reviewed: Ping I-15 8 Degree

I went to the Ping fitting van recently and trialled the latest G15 and I15 lines in both the drivers and irons. I must admit that I was keen to hit the G15 to see how it compared with my current driver (MacGregor MT 460). However, the G15 completely underwhelmed me - I was hitting moon balls with a big hook (interesting combination I know) even with the 9 degree stiff shaft.

The fitting guy then gave me an 8 degree I15 driver which I had only heard poor things about (apart from the fact it looks stunning). I was blown away by its performance - it is easily the best driver I have ever hit. Launch angle of around 12 degrees with a spin rate of 2300. The ball was going dead straight on a perfect trajectory. According to the computer, eight of the ten balls I hit carried over 260m (including one over 270m). The other two carried 252 and 258 metres. All of this into a slight headwind. Dunno whether you can trust the computer stats. or not, but they certainly appeared visually to be much longer than my normal drives. And with a nice trajectory that would have given me a fair amount of run.

If you hit the ball too high, or your bad shot is a hook, give the I15 a trial run. It really surprised me, and was significantly better (for me) than the G15. It may not be for everyone, but it suited me down to the ground.

Customer Service

The Ping fitting van guy was excellent - really knew his stuff.
