MacTec NVG 9.5* Stiff
I had my mitts on an R5 N with the stock reg shaft and decided to pay for launch analysis fitting. The R5 didn't work well for me (very forgiving but not long). I gave the MAcTec and Callaway 454 a try and with my swing the Mac Tec 9.5 Stiff worked the best. It delivered on distance and consistency. I usually take a regular shaft but with this MAc Quadra the Stiff worked best so maybe it runs soft. It is a very nice looking club. The deep blue put me off at first but it grows on you..really (looks MUCH better with the wrapper off). One negative to some may be the sound at impact. Sounds exactly like a metal baseball bat to me. These can be found on Ebay brand new in wrapper for $200 - $240. Customer Service Great. They are sending me a headcover since the seller lost his. I went to a demo yesterday and gave this club a try and i think i hit it farther than i have hit any other driver before. Every drive was landing at the 250 sign and wouldn't slice or hook bad at all every shot would have been easily playable. It is a little pricey and doesn't have the best sound in the world either. This club delivers. Exteremly happy to have extra 10-20 yards over last year. Love the looks but most of all performance. |

MacGregor Mactec NVG 10.5 stiff
I have not previously posted a review but felt I must due to the adverse ones already on here. I recently bought the 10.5 deg stiff and have owned/tried nearly every current driver apart from the new Titleist 905. My last owened was the R5D which was a great club very forgiving, but I felt I wasn't getting the distance I should. I demod loads of other drivers Ignite was long and the PD5 impressed me but when I hit the MACTEC it was like no other, the ball absolutely flies off the face like a rocket. I would say not as solid feeling on off center hits (as the R5, although the same distance). However hit this thing anywhere near the sweetspot and it is gone. I have gained possibly 30 yards, at my home course I now have to cut corners because I run out of fairway and have frequently hit 300yd plus drives (average about 280). The only thing I can fault is the fact that I should have got the Xstiff as my swing speed is 110 and it feels a little whippy if you really go after it, still put a smooth swing and you better keep an eye on the ball. MacGregor Mactec NVG 8.5 stiff+
I went to the local golf store to upgrade my driver. I have been using Titleist 983K w/Fuji Speeder for the past 18-month’s and wanted a driver with a bigger head for forgiveness. I usually average about 280 off the tee but occasionally hit it far left. After hitting several drivers, it came down to Nike Ignite 460 or Taylor Made R5 N. So, off I went w/ my 983k as a trade in and I was going to make my final decision at the store. The sales guy wanted me to check out the Mactec and talked about how this was the best selling club in Asia for the past few years. He also talked about the quadra action Shaft and told me that he added 20 yards since switching to the Mactec. After 45 minutes w/ this guy, I was sold….However, he did not have the 8.5 at the store so I decided to look on-line. I got a great deal on Ebay and I purchased the brand new driver for $250. I hit the driver few times at the range and took it out for a round over the weekend. Man, I hit everything left and I almost wanted to break the driver. After the round, I even went to the local store to trade in the club… Anyway, to make long story short…… I took it out again for 2nd and 3rd time and found this is one of the best driver out there. When you miss, it somehow finds the fairway. I gained 10 yards. The KEY is that you must swing the club and not try to kill every drive. The shaft w/ it’s quad action will do the work for you. Swing slow and on average the shaft will add 5 mph to the swing. I am going to change the shaft to Grafalloy Blue Proto NT shaft as I really like to swing hard. Anyway, please try to club and you will love it… Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: Taylor Made R5, R7, Callaway 454, Nike Ngnite, Cleveland comp 460. |

The first time I took this out to play was in a scramble, I could,nt keep my partners hands off it. I had 6 drives over 330 yds, my longest came on the long drive hole(I hit it 360 to the middle of the green) This thing is great. |

Very interesting...I hit this driver at the range on more than one occassion before bying it. Hit it a ton, and straight as well. Now I cannot find that shot. I cannot explain it. Still trying because when you hit it in the middle it is out of here. We'll see. |

Man what a bunch of hooey. This driver is the epitome of hype. I tried a 9.5 stiff. The stiff feels soft almost like a regular. Tha clubs are put together very poorly for the 400 dollar price tag. I noticed a grip on one club had about another 1/2 inch to go down the shaft for a correct install. So i thought i would pick a few out, most were not even pushed all the way down the shaft. I really am a fan of Macgregor, but come on guys. This is obviously a MacGregor/Norman ploy to part you from your wallet. $400 bucks for this club is absurd....its not that special. Great club. Indoor range comparison: Swing speed 8 mph greater than taylor made R7. Off center hits explode off face. Similar Products Used: Callaway GBB II |
