APART FROM THE NOISE AND THE GRIP WHICH RIPPED UP MY NEW GLOVE ON THE FIRST ROUND, I LOVE IT. DISTANCE IS GREAT, FEEL IS GREAT, ACCURACY IS FANTASTIC AND I HAVE NEVER HIT SO MANY FAIRWAYS ESPECIALLY WITH MY PREVIOUS INABILITY TO HIT THE BALL ANYWHERE BUT RIGHT. I CAN NOW TEE IT HIGH AND LET IT FLY WITH THE LOWER LOFT AND I AM REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE CLUB. HOWEVER THIS MIGHT NOT BE FOR EVERYONE AS MY DAD CANT USE IT AND HE HAS A VERY UPRIGHT SWING COMPARED TO MY VERY FLAT PLANE, WHICH MIGHT BE SOMETHING TO CONSIDER.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor M38 V-Foil Driver

First let me say, if you buy a MacGregor V-Foil M38 Driver you will need to come to terms with a few things. 1. You may have fewer friends 2. You may have to get your head round the fact you are not cheating in any way (it will feel like it) 3. You may have to decide a gameplan for making 50-70 yard shots to the green. 4. You will have to grudgingly concede that the most expensive drivers are just not the best. So.... after getting fed up with my Ping i3 Reg flex flying all over the place, I decided it was time to try one of the newer model drivers. I am not a fan of hitting balls at the range as generally they are crap and you can not tell if you have hit a draw, fade or straight shot as they tend to do mostly do what they want and feel like you are hitting a brick. I chose to make my decision from reading many reviews on web sites such as this. I was struck by the quality reviews the M38 received from all standard of golfers and in fact was unable to find a single negative review. (apart from the constant moans about the loud baseball bat sound - but I will come to that in a minute)The price was the carrot to buy without trying and boy was this the right decision. I am now driving in near winter conditions as far as my best, best, best drives in the summer dry weather and bald fairways. On my worst mis-hit drives I am usually just alongside the fairway (still 250) where previously I would have been in a neighbouring back garden or bouncing off down the road. I am on average 30-40 yards longer than my previous best drives. I would say somewhere in the region of 280 yard average (remember we are talking wet fairways (usually at break of dawn when there is no run at all)You should know I am 6ft 3in and 15 stone, but that when I hit at 90% that’s when the real screamers fly. I would say I have a reasonable swing but not brilliant and have never had a lesson. I can honestly say, you can hit this club with some quite bad swings and it still seems to fly. Now that sound on impact... forget the moans, it’s like a symphony. Not a twink, (for want of a more descriptive word) more like the sound that would emit from smashing your playing partners around the head with a pipe - because that’s how they will look after seeing your drives - Stunned! My M38 has stiff flex factory fitted shaft and hitting the centre of the fairway is just a matter of identifying the best point to tee the ball at address, too far forward and it may be closed out and go straight to the left of the fairway, too far back and it will do the opposite. I have found it extremely easy to line up and within a few shots you will have the exact location to continue hitting perfect. The flight for my 10.5 degree is also just right and carries for a long way. In summary must be the best driver out there and what value. I picked mine up for £43.00 including postage on Ebay as a new ex demo. Knowing what I do now I would have been happy if I had paid £150.00. When you buy the M38, you do not get a driver, you get a weapon.

Model Reviewed: M38 w/YS 6.1 stiff shaft

The MacGregor ad slogan, "hit it anywhere on the eye and take a long walk in the short grass" is pretty accurate. I played my first round today with the M38, the 380cc version of the Eye-O-Matic, and I was really pleased. The fairways in Ohio are still a little dried out, but I probably averaged 290 yards and was in the fairway or through the fairway on almost every drive. It is longer than my previous driver and the YS 6.1 shaft seems to fit my 105 mph swing well. I really don't mind the "aluminum bat" sound it makes. It is not overly loud and should not prevent anyone from buying if otherwise interested. The club is large, but not too big. For me it is about the right size. I highly recommend it. I paid $38 on EBay. It was used, but it looked brand new when I received it. Many golf stores are selling it for $149 and up.

Model Reviewed: MacGregor Eye-o-matic M38

I was using an 11 degree MacGregor 410 and was pretty satisfied, but it hit way too high - especially in the wet conditions we've had this year. I was tired of plugged drives! I found a slightly used (as in "I don't think anyone ever hit it")DEMO M38, 9.5 degree with a stiff, Graphite Design YS 6.1 shaft for $89. I imediately cut it down to 44".I love the "smaller" head for aiming and MacGregor didn't go for the extremely deep club faces so you are hitting from standard length tees. The M38 hits very straight and I find I hit it as long as the new Mac-Tec, or SZ Cobras. And, the sound of mine is not as loud as some of these other clubs. Anyhow, you're watching the ball soar straight through the air, long after the sound has gone! MacGregor Eye-o-matic was the original Persimon wood with the brass plug in the center of the phenolic insert. I had those clubs, years ago and it's good to see the name re-used on a sweet hitting price/performance driver.

Model Reviewed: m38 8.5 aldila nv75s

A model introduced in 2004 that is available at bargain prices via the internet. I bought mine after testing a number of clubs, including the Cleveland Launcher 460 and Launcher Comp 460. The Launcher Comp with the Aldila NV75s shaft worked best for me, but I did not want to pay the $429 sticker price. I found this like-new (tiny cosmetic flaws) driver on ebay for $62, shipping included. It performs much as the Comp did--not quite as straight, but easier to shape. Both clubs are straighter than my old Quadpro Titanium despite an additional 10-15 yards carry. The 380cc head of the M38 has about the same footprint as a 460cc club, but is shallower, a look I much prefer. Those with a tendency to sky might do better with the 420cc M42. The only drawback is the aluminum-bat ring at impact.

Model Reviewed: M38 8.5* Grafalloy Blue Tour X

Theres only one thing you can day about this driver...WOW. I first tried it with the std shaft which was the YS6.1 stiff. That was alittle wippy for me so I switched to a Grafalloy Blue Tour X. With this shaft the driver is amazing. Its extremely east to hit and its true what some says, just point and shoot and it will truely launch from the tee. But the best thing about it is that most people go for Taylor Made or Cleveland and the other big name drivers. Macgregor is virtually unknown so i was able to get it for $100 brand new on ebay without all the hassle of waithing till the last min to bid. Most of them go for $80-90. Also note the amazing loud sound it makes. Because Im not the best of golfers the sound makes me "look" better then I really am and I can see people look over and look at me and wonder what Im hitting. HUGE confidence booster.

Model Reviewed: Macgregor Tour M38 Aldila NV 65 X

Finding fairways has always been my biggest problem. About every third round I will drive the ball well and shoot low. The rest of the time I am hovering in the mid 70's. I have had this driver for about 2 months and I am very pleased. It is larger but its looks hide that fact. It sets up square to open. I must also mention that I have the Tour model and I have never hit the retail version but I have seen them in stores and it looks the same. It may not be as long as the Titleist 983k or R510 tp but it is much more forgiving. I am hitting many more fairways and it is allowing me to go after pins. It is still fairly easy to work the ball but the best shot for this driver is straight to a slight fade. I would strongly recommend giving this driver a try.

I just got this club a few days ago and have played 36 holes with it so far. All I can say is WOW. I traded a Ping T-iSI in for it and so far I've been a good 10-20 yards longer than I was with my Ping on average. And the distance comes with less effort too. A smooth, easy swing is rewarded with excellent distance and accuracy. Now for the bad: This thing is LOUD. The closest thing I can compare the sound to is that of an aluminum baseball bat. But I can easily overlook this "flaw" because of the great distance and accuracy this driver affords.
