Sold my SS380, which I loved to a friend and purchased a Taylor Made. Couldn't hit it straight. Borrowed a SZ440, hit it 250 down the middle. Purchased a new SZ440. I can hit it straight, draw, or fade. I am back in the fairway and have taken strokes off. I have also added about 20 yards distance with more use. I love it. I tried this out on the Driving range where I could accurately measure Distance. Compared with Callaway FT3, Cleveland 400, Callaway 414. The cobra was easily 10 yrds longer and consistently straighter than the others. Love the light weight shaft Mitubishi, mid kick, stiff. Similar Products Used: Callaway FT3, X500, TM460 |

Bought this club about a month ago as golf season began here in Michigan. I've played 4 times so far and all I can say is this club has been a blessing. I'm hitting consistently between 230 and 240, which is a little less than with previous drivers. This is mainly due to the low launch shaft(I may reshaft it with a higher launch.) that came with it. Despite the lower distant, this club has allowed me to keep the ball in play on nearly all shots. I'd estimate I've been in the fairway 80 to 90% of the time. Even on mis-hits, this has been the case. The key has been that the wicked slice associated with other drivers I've tried has turned into a fairly soft fade. Great club. Customer Service Haven't had to use it, but I love Golfsmith. If fact, I've had to ban myself from that store because I WILL make an impulse buy from there 90% of the time. LOL. Got this club for $175 new. Similar Products Used: Mizumo T-Zoid Blue Rage Driver.(Longest driver I've ever hit, but no control) Taylor Made 320 Ti.(Distance comparable. King Cobra 440SZ 9.5* Regular Shaft
This is the best thing since sliced bread!!! I am a serial-driver-buyer and have been looking for a driver that fits my game. The list goes on and on and on. I first borrowed this from a mate and even though one of the weight cartridges was missing, I hit is like a dream. Long and sweet. I bought mine and the rest is history. The club looks and feels superb as you would expect from Cobra. The 9 sweet spots and high-COR face explode the ball from the tee in a way I found hard with the well rated R580XD. As the ball meets the face there is something special in the way of feel. You can literally feel the give of the face as it prepares to rocket the ball away. Especially when paired with HX Blacks or ProV1s. The Golf Pride velvet grip compliments the Aldila regular shaft perfectly, providing plenty of grip and feel. Thanks to this club I have taken 5 off my handicap at least!!! I now hit in the region of 260-280 yards regularly. That was the stuff of dreams not long ago. Customer Service Bought from American Golf in Preston. Mark the Gen Manager put so much work into securing the club for me and making sure it got to me in one piece! Im only 14 and this driver is incredible! I bought it a few days ago from ebay for only $140. I took it to the range today for the first time and hit a small bucket (about 40 balls). I could not believe how accurate and forgiving it was. It felt like wherever you hit it on the face, it was still gonna be a great shot. But this driver's best feature is its incredible distance. I was getting at least 250 yards, and some over 280, right over the back of the range. No matter your handicap, GET THIS CLUB!! Customer Service None needed. I've recently demoed a number of drivers (callaway gbb II, 454, and ft-3, titleist 983k, nike forged and mizuno mp-001) after deciding to switch from my TM r580 (a very nice club I might add). Thus, I will offer my subjective opinion on how the cobra stacks up with some of these other offerings, which I feel is more useful than to say that a club is either good or bad. Distance (carry and roll): I won't kid you and say this driver added 30 yards to my drive. However, I can tell that the ball really explodes off of the face and offered the best combination of carry and roll. The r580 by comparison, just seems to float in the air and land softly, resulting in nice carry, but minimal roll. The nike offered a ton of carry (partly due to 10.5* loft), but minimal roll. The callaways and even the 983k did not seem to have the same explosive initial ball velocity as the cobra, which I think affecting how far the club carried. I will say, however, the titleist did have quite a bit of roll (probably lower spin). Only the mizuno gave me the sense of explosiveness as the cobra. However, the mizuno launched at a low angle and overall carry suffered as a result. Thus in terms of distance, I would rate the cobra as the highest and the nike as the lowest. Forgiveness (distance): Even for a 9*, the cobra has a high launch that I would venture to say is slightly higher than my 9.5* r580. In terms of relative forgiveness, I think all the clubs were essentially the same. If you hit the ball anywhere near the center, there was minimal distance loss. Forgiveness (accuracy): I am combining directional forgiveness and accuracy into one category because for most golfers (particularly those who slice), they simply want a decently straight shot that will stay in the fairway... The cobra is definitely designed with slicers in mind. The face is 2.5* closed and there is internal weighting to give it a draw bias. It took a while to get used to the closed face (would hook some of my shots), but the cobra will offer accuracy help by making it easier to square the face at impact. The r580, nike and most of the other offerings offered some leftward bias. The only clubs I felt that was a little lacking in terms of directional forgiveness were the mp-001 and 983k. For the mp-001, even though it is draw bias, I hit mostly fades with it (most likely due to an overly stiff shaft which generally leads to fades). As for the 983k, perhaps it was the heavier swing weight, but I struggled mightily as shots would miss both left and right on me. Thus, I would rate all clubs except for the mp-001 and 983k as excellent in terms of directional forgiveness / accuracy (and an average rating for the latter two clubs). One last note. I know some golfers don't feel comfortable with the larger club heads. No, they are not the traditional clubs used by icons from yester-year. Yes, they have a higher MOI and therefore are more difficult to square at impact than smaller heads such as the 983k (365) or nike (350). But in a sense, the larger clubs force you to work on a proper wrist release. I must say that once I learned to tame these oversized beasts, hitting the rest of my clubs became a breeze. Anyways, good luck with your quest for a driver and hopefully this shed some light on your search. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: I've used the aforementioned clubs either on a course or for a prolonged demo period. Other recent clubs tried, albeit for much shorter periods, are the r5, r7, ping G2 and cleveland launcher. |
