Just a few balls at the range so far but, this driver is long, high and loud. Not a "clang" loud, a "bang" loud. Actually sounds good to me. The shafts seemed to play a little stiff to me so I picked the Regular flex and it's working fine. Hard to fade this club. Can't wait to get it out on the course.

Got a loaner set of Cobra clubs on a recent business trip. The Speed LD F driver blew me away. I only missed one fairway all day and was hitting it really long. Came home and bought one - and glad I did. I'm a notoriously short hitter, but I'm consistently getting 10-20 yards more on my drives. Extremely forgiving. Had the Cobra SZ 440 before and loved it, but this one is much better. The sound takes getting used to, but the results speak for themselves.

This driver has added 30-35 yards to my drives, compared to my previous (2006 model) 460 driver. Same loft, same shaft flex. The Cobra LD is the longest-hitting driver I've ever swung. It's very forgiving; On one shot I hit it a bit thin and still got 260 yards straight down the fairway.

The sound at contact takes some getting used to. It sounds like you're hitting a steel trash can lid. My playing partners got a kick out of the LD's unique sound, because it's as long as it is loud.

First, the positives: very hot face and you can really feel the trampoline effect kicking in--more so than with almost any other club I have hit; the Adila 55 gr stiff stock shaft is fine. And the 9 degree loft
launches high, yet boring. The ball wants to go straight IF you put an easy swing on it. Though the Vector launch monitor and fitter were recommending that I consider a regular flex shaft--as I'm getting older now-- on the course that was too whippy, and the two degree closed face was resulting in hooks, especially when I made a full turn, or any time I tried to really launch one. I hit the ball straight, and don't have any other club in my bag with any offset or draw bias in it--and the tendency toward hooking though somewhat better with the stiff shaft, still would result in leaving the ball to the left when I put a full swing on it. Was starting to feel a bit inhibited with this club--I mean it was easy to keep it in the short stuff--but only when I swung at about 80% or less--which took some of the fun out of hitting driver. Plus, there was the problem of the closed face making this club very difficult to work the ball, either right or left (Cobra's first version of a big headed titanium driver--the 427 Ti--though also possessing a two degree closed face, was much easier to work the ball, and didn't require me having to tone down my swing. Also, though I was willing to put up with it, this club is THE LOUDEST sounding driver I've ever heard--and I'm not crazy about the weird, non-classical shape of the club-head. Have learned to compensate
for the heavy draw bias I've experienced with this club by leaving the face notably open at address. The result is that I can torque up my swing more when I need an extra 15 or 20 yards and not go left...though occasionally having to estimate on how much to open the face has resulted in leaving the ball on the right. Since this is the only club in my bag I have to compensate for, have decided to let it go.
Are there any righthanded slicers out there looking for a new driver? (That's who I think this club was designed for--probably 80 % of all golfers--and for those with a tendency to slive, this club should be a fine addition to the bag).

Customer Service

Cobra reps I have dealt with have always been very friendly and responsive. When the old 427s first came out along with the SZ fairway metals, the head covers were too tight on both--and so Cobra redesigned them and sent me replacements at no charge.

Have tried most of the new drivers. Nothing has yet wowed me, though I did just order
a Cleveland 460 Ti off Ebay. Will review it after I have some experience with it. One last thing: the new Cobra Bafflers are
the real deal when it comes to utility clubs

Holy Cow... So I'm a fairly good golfer and much like many of you on here I practice maybe once/twice a week and play about once a week. So based on my username you can see I've always been a Taylormade fanatic. On a whim I decided to swing the Cobra F Speed at my local shop off of a launch monitor. I had my Taylormade 460 with me (the new version) to do some comparisons and while I normally bang that club on average 250 I was shocked when the launch monitor read 270+ carry with the Cobra F Speed. Rick from my local shop said to take it out to the driving range and sure as can be, our driving range net sits out at 260 yards. Needless to say I hit the first 3 shots mid-way up the netting. 2 mis-hits landed just short then one-bounced into the net. One thing that stood out was that even on those mis-hits the ball was only 10-15 yars off-line which for me was incredible. I switched back and forth between clubs and the Cobra was clearly giving me 20-30 yards more on my drive. Was odd trying to get use to the insanely loud sound that it emitted though. So after playing around I was convinced and went back to the shop returned the demo and purchased a brand new Cobra F Speed w/ Aldila Stiff shaft. My swing speed is roughly 95-98mph so the added distance had me doing cartwheels. Just to prove my point I had one of my friends meet me at the driving range who has an extremely slow swing speed. He normally hits his drives 180-190 yards, his first 5 shots while using my new driver were hitting out between 220-230 yards so we were both surprised since we didn't think it would do him much good with the stiff shaft and all. So now he plans to pick one up as well. All in all folks I won't say this will cure your ills, go out to your local shop and try one for yourself. Trust me you'll be amazed... after 3 rounds the added distance and accuracy have put my mid-low 80's handicap in jeopardy as I shot 79-78-80. If you can get over the loud "THWACK" sound and want to be the BIG DAWG in your foursome, give the Cobra F-Speed a shot. Best of luck and hopefully it'll do for you what it did for me. More bang for your buck when compared to the Taylormade products.

********** WOW ***********

I used this bad boy for the first time at the PGA course at The Belfry and I was suitably impressed. The one thing that makes it different from all others is the noise. I expect older members on the course will be horrified at the breach of the peace created every time you use the big dawg. I have always hit the ball far, but now it is on the short stuff instead of the rough. The 16th at the PGa is 326 yds from the whites and I drove it to 9 feet (pin high). My pitch mark was 15 yds from the stick. In my book it is a belter. Just stand a little bit further back a launch into the thing.

Model Reviewed: Cobra LD F speed driver

Here's goes my 2 cents worth.

Cobra LD f speed 9 degrees

Was fit for the driver with a launch monitor (vector systems inc.). On average ball speed was 155 mph, carry was 255 on average. Launch angle was 14 degrees.

My natural ball flight is a draw and my disaster shot (when the sleeping giant awakens)is the rocket pull left.

The fact that there is some draw bias in the club was a worrisome thought at first.

I play Titleist 681 limited edition blades and I steer clear of offset, heel weighting and the like.

However....

When brought to the range and worked, it was pretty darn straight with the usual 5 yard draw at the end of the ball flight.

It hits a ton.

First hole yielded a perfect draw along the edge of the right fairway which fell back in for a 280 drive on poa annua grass.

Poa annua is not bent grass, there are no artificial bent grass numbers on these things. The root system is more fragile than bent, you need to keep them moister, and you cannot shave them as low. Ergo, these numbers are spot on. Add 15 yards of roll or more for bent.

This club is 10 yards longer than the Taylor Made R5.

Although my avg. ball speed is 155 mph the shaft is recommended for up to 150 mph at it's upper limit. It does not feel as if I am torquing out at all, and the shaft feels like an easy swinger.

The feeling off the face is exceptional. Truly a Cobra.

Could have gone with the X speed but they did not have it in stock as "very few people can hit them " or so I was told.

This is the best driver that I have hit this season. It hits a ton, straight as an arrow, workable, and lookd great.

Cheers!

Acushnet which owns Titleist, Cobra, Footjoy offer the worst service. I am still waiting for the rep to fix my new "reelfit" shoes that locked around my foot and took us 20 minutes to extract/peel away from my left foot.

This is the easiest club to hit in the fairway I've ever owned! It does launch it extremely high. I've hit plenty of 250 yard carries that do not roll out at all and that's the drawback. But it's very staight. I'm averaging about 9 to 10 fairways hit out of 14. The only club that might be straighter is the Calaway FTI. I've hit this on a range before. But I'm not paying $500 dollards for 1 club. The cobra cost me $249. The sound is very loud. People turn around just to see what you're hitting.

I've been playing this club for about a month now and I love it! I was playing the FT-3 and I had nothing but bad shots with that club. I read all the reviews on the older F model and everyone seemed to like it so going off of the reviews I bought the club, never having hit one, and so far it has been awesome. It takes a bit getting used to the sound at first but it sounds awesome and the guys you play with will too. I highly recommend this club to the golfer who likes to hit them high and somewhat strait. I have a bad slice but this driver gets more shots on the fairway than any club i've ever had. I have the 9 degree stiff, that seems to be a good setup for a slicer like me. The Bottom dents easily though if you top the ball so hit em' right.
