Model Reviewed: GBBII 10 degree Grafalloy Blue Shaft

I've only been playing 18 months and my biggest problem was accuracy off the tee. After fighting a savage slice for 8 months with a Deep Red regular, I tried the Adams GT363 stiff which was much better but I still sliced if I gave it a whack. I bought the GBBII on US ebay, the Grafalloy blue shaft is very stiff compared to other shafts I've used and I have a fairly slow swing. The result? - on the fairway 90% of the time. I have only played 3 x 9 holes with this club, can't wait for 18 because that "shoots in the 100's" is coming down. Sure - I'm probably losing a little distance with the Blue shaft because my swing is not fast but who cares? Straight (actually a nice draw) is long enough. This setup just squares the head up beautifully every time. The club is not overly exciting in the feel department but I wouldn't swap it for anything. I had the opportunity of comparing it to another GBBII with a stock firm shaft at the range the other day, I was hitting them both similar distances but the standard shaft only gave me around 50% accuracy. If you're thinking about a new shaft, give the Grafalloy Blue a go, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Bought new GBB II 10* stock firm flex off ebay and loved it right away, easiest driver to hit straight I've ever played. I hit 230-250yds on average. Was playing Hawkeye VFT 9* with stock firm shaft all year, really liked slight draw bias and forgiveness...unless you were a little fast and then, look out on the left! GGB II seems much more neutrally biased, although draw more than fade. Only issue is shaft, I have a Pro Series Hawkeye VFT 13* 3-wood with RCH 65 Tour Series Regular flex shaft and shaft feels stiffer and more solid at impact. GBB II is best driver I've played but may try to get some new shaft advice to tweak it a little. Heard Grafalloy Blue, UST Proforce, Aldila NV are good choices. Great driver and at price I paid I can justify reshafting.

I have been playing regularly for 18 months and have seen vast improvement in my iron play, but getting off the tee with any consistency has continued to be a problem (using an old 9* steel Big Bertha). I went to a Callaway demo day and tried the GBBII 9* and 10* drivers with firm shaft. The results were quite amazing - I preferred the 10* and although there were some mis-hits, at least 1/2 the time I was carrying 230yrds and rolling it easily to the fence at 250 yrds (a lot longer than I am used to). Furthermore, when a slice reared it's ugly head, it was a lot straighter and would have been less punishing than with the old club. I really did not think that these clubs would make that much difference to a player of my level - this is incorrect. I left smiling and have vowed to save the pennies to buy one - very worthwhile.

Customer Service

Guys at the demo day were really helpful (as they should be given the price of these clubs)

It took me a while to pin this club down. The 9* with the progressive draw bias really forced me to correct my clunky old swing. Now that I have forced some corrections in my swing, I am hitting straight and have shot two of the last 8 rounds in the mid 80s (unheard of before). I have no problem getting straight drives over 300 yards. A word of caution: If you have a tendency to turn your wrists out, or swing from the outside in across the ball, this club will push it 300 yards to the right of the fairway; you must have a controlled swing with a perfect follow through to hit this club.

Customer Service

Great. Fedex broke the first club callaway preowned sent, but callawy sent a new one overnight air for free.

What a fantastic club! I just traded in my old VFT driver for the Great Big Bertha II. Let's just say, the VFT, with it's closed face, was really starting to annoy me. I can't believe how straight the Bertha II is. I guess the only thing I can say "negative" about it, is that it's about impossible to fade the ball with it. As a weekend player, I really don't mind. I'll take straight, or a slight draw, all day long. This club feels great, hits 'em long, and keeps you in the short grass. I don't know how they can improve on a product such as this.

Customer Service

Always top notch.

I am a scratch golfer who has access to and has played almost every club available for left handers. I had a couple tour drivers previously and they were very good. This driver does not give me the feedback most top shelf tour qaulity drivers do. That being said, this dr iver really excels with distance and forgiveness. This club is so forgiving it gives me a bit more confidence to really let it go. I am one of the few top players in my state with this driver and am even mad fun of a little in jest but I am one of the longest and straightest finishing in the top 15 of my states amateur mainly because of this stick. Worth every penny. Can be had on ebay for less than 300 bucks, a steal.

Model Reviewed: Callaway Great Big Bertha II driver, 8 degree firm

Had been testing various drivers to replace a Taylor Made 200, 9.5 driver. The GBBII seemed to hit longer with less effort than the new TM drivers or the Titleist drivers. I had tested the 9, but I wanted a lower trajectory, so when an 8 was available on ebay, I went for it. The surprise for me was that I first couldn't get rid of a slight fade that I have with all my woods. I thought the firm flex might not be right. I went to a Callaway fitting center and had my swing checked out (I highly recommend that). Head speed 100 mph. Fitter suggested I use a strong grip alignment. Pow. Just like that, everything is fine now. Callaway shafts are more flexible than other shafts, which can be good or bad. The sound is more of a "pow," than a "thwack." The feel is more vague than other drivers, but the impact creates less shock in my arms. I drive 240-260 regularly now, sometimes further. If you have a faster swing, I would go with other drivers with more feedback and control, but Callaway makes a fine product for aspiring golfers.

This driver is incredible. I couldn't believe how much I out-drove my Titleist 975D. This club gives you the trajectory, distance, and another 20 yards of roll for maximum distance. It gives you a chance to play a shorter iron into par fours, and easier regulation shots on par fives. I am short and thin, don't hit the ball too long (225 average), but using the Great Big Bertha II made me feel like a monster compared to my older friends I play with. You're better off spending a couple hundred more for this driver!

Rescently I bought the Great Big Bertha Warbird for $100. It's a nice driver with a good feel but does not hit as long or as straight as the Great Big Bertha II.

Model Reviewed: GBB II 10* Regular

This is an amazing club! It is very long and, more importantly, gives me confidence to swing away without concern that I'm ever going to be too far off the fairway on misses. For me, that's a key feature, as I've hit other hot drivers that I would lose a couple times a round-generally adding 2-4 strokes at a point when I'm working to get under 80. One note: I suggest trying the different shafts and lofts. I tend to hit the ball a very long way, and I've been playing a Titleist 975D 8.5* with a stiff Grafalloy shaft. I happened to hit this 10* regular when I was playing with a guy in Florida, and it just felt fantastic. I demoed the 9* stiff afterwards and didn't enjoy it at all. Part of it may have been the swingweight (regular shaft is lighter in GBB II), and part of it the greater draw that fits my eye a little better, but I would never have guessed that I would like a 10* regular so much. Anyway, this particular configuration has been great for me, so it's definitely worth playing around with the specs.

Customer Service

Never used. For the money Callaway wants for their drivers, I expect the service to be fantastic if I ever need it.
