Model Reviewed: Great Big Bertha II w/system 60 firm

I bought this club from Callaway pre-owned.com, and just love it. I read ALOT of reviews, tried a few clubs, and eventually made a long-needed upgrade from my 9* Steelhead Plus w/S300 shaft. My GBBII is 10* with the stock System 60 firm shaft. Everything you will read here about the forgiving nature of this club is absolutely true. Slight mis-hit even seem to wind their way back to centre. But don't believe all the reviews slamming the stock Callaway system-60 shaft. If you're shooting in the high 80's-90's like me, don't waste your money on aftermarket shafts (Grafalloy-this, and Aldila-that.) Instead, spend the money at the driving range. I have a fast tempo to my swing, so the "firm" flex shaft suits me fine. And anything that cuts left or slices has to do with MY swing, not the shaft. I nut it about 70-percent of the time, and WOW it takes off. I hit my old Steelhead about 230-240 when I got hold of it. But this GBBII is going 250-260 consistently. The other 30-percent are still often in the fairway. And if it goes sideways, I immediately have the feedback telling me what I did wrong. I will however agree that the Callway grips are poop. I swapped it out for a sticky old Tour Wrap and the control of the clubhead is great. When I start shooting in the 70's I'll worry about an aftermarket shaft, but this sytem 60 is nothing like the garbage Callway used to put in their woods. If I didnt have to spend money on a new grip, I'd give it 5 stars.

i grabbed this out of a "very" second hand bin at my local golf shop, thinking it would be ideal for my wife with a light shaft and 11 degrees ....... so much for that idea. I played the same day and this club out performed my Ping G2, i have never liked the > 400 cc idea, and despite being a ping man the GBB2 is the perfect size and swing weight, it is better than my Biggest Big, which is saying something. Obviously the light shaft had to go, I have fitted a Penley stealth 70 shaft and this is the best club available on the market bar none, as with alot of Callaway equipment, the older models often produce the better result, I am so pleased I don't have to swing a jumbo size driver any more. 380 cc is plenty.

I have had this club for about six months with relative success. The shaft that I came with it was an awful shaft. If you are serious about having success with the club get a new shaft. My distance was good with the club but i couldn't FEEL where the ball was hitting on the club. when i went on a bad streak i didn't know where i was missing on the club face. It is a fairly forgiving club but feel is a big problem.

I got this club yesterday which kicked my old unforgiving TaylorMade 300 out of my bad. Today I went to the range and hit it well so i decided to play. I hit 9 Fairways 8 Greens and I shot a 79! My previous bests were 8 Fairways 7 Greens and a 83! This club is forgiving on close to off center hits. Heel shots cut to the left side of the fairway and Toe shots hooked to the right side(I am left handed). On average I hit this beast over 275. Im hooked on the feeling and just this one club made me want to play 36 holes. It revitalized my golf game.

Just started using this driver this year. It was a Christmas present from my sons and daughter. When I tested the club at the store hitting into a compuerized screen, it indicated I was getting up to 250yds. off the tee. On the course I'm regularly getting 240 - 280 yds. off the tee. I'm using the "Driver" version which has a 1 degree draw bias. I wanted the model without the bias but they were out of stock. It doesn't seem to matter. I certainly can't complain about the results. Most of my drives to have a slight draw which is exactly what I want. It took me very little time to adjust to this club. The length is the same as a standard driver. I'm using the stock regular flex shaft which has great feel and works very well for me. I'd rate this driver tops for distance and playability. And what a great sound it makes.

After a stint with the Titleist 983K, I have come back to the GBB II with my tail between my legs. Although the 9.5* 983K w/ Aldila NV 65 stiff shaft was a good range club for me...it was not a club that I could take to the course. Taking nothing away from the 983K's performance, but I personally seem to be able to control the 10* GBB II with the Grafalloy Pro Launch 65 stiff shaft better, and hit more fairways and first cuts of rough without sacraficing distance. Isn't that what we golfers are all basically looking for?

Customer Service

Excellent from what I heard.

When I first got this driver I was frustrated. I was very inconsitent, but bombed one every once in a while. I've worked with it a lot and I'm very happy with it now, I've gained 30+ yards on my drives, every now and then I bomb one well over 300. I'm still a little inconsistent though, I've heard getting a Graffolly Blue shaft will help and i think I will try it. Club is very forgiving and a Great Buy.

Customer Service

Great, had clubs repaired and sent back in less then a week and even took the scratches out and made them look like new.

Model Reviewed: GBB II 10 Deg.

I purchased the GBB II 10 deg Reg Flex Driver in May and WOW what a driver. The ball launches off the tee. Very high launch. However, I was having trouble with consistency. Couldn't figure out the problem until I talk to a Pro Golfer and he suggested changing shafts and replacing the factory (junk shaft) with Grafalloy Blue. Remember that tip. Get rid of the Callaway shaft. I took his advise and installed a Grafalloy Blue Graphite shaft and now this driver is deadly. Extremely accurate. Just aim and hit. I have to say the Grafalloy Blue shaft improved this driver 100%. I am now hitting between 275-300 yards with pin point accuracy. Club is very forgiving on those mis hits.

Customer Service

Callaway's Customer Service is EXCELLENT! Hands down the best.

Model Reviewed: Great Big Bertha II 11*

This is an a great club. I get plenty of distance and roll. I previoulsy used a 12* GBBII, and was averaging around 220-240 yds. I stepped down to the 11* and all I can say is "WOW". I consistently drive the ball around 270 yds. and for the first time ever, hit one well over 300 yds. I love this driver. The only bad thing about this club, is the shaft. It seems a bit unstable and "flimsy". I will probably upgrade the shaft soon. Other than that, you cant go wrong with this driver. I bought it from Callaway Pre Owned in "Like New" condition for around $150.00.

Customer Service

Excellent. No fuss, no hassles with them. They really do aim to satisfy the customer.

Maybe it's the warmer weather but I'm enjoyig this club more and more each time I use it. Recently I got a Cleveland Launcher 460 with the stiff shaft and quickly went back to the GBBII. I have the stock stiff shaftans 9*loft. My drives have a nice fade to them. I also like the smaller 380cc head as opposed to Clevelands 460 and the new Callaway 454. I hit it farther with the smaller head. So I'm not sure if size matters. They had a Nike demo at the course I play out and I tried the Nike Ignite 460. I did not care for it. There was no distance gain and may well have been 10-20 yards shorter then the GBBII.
