Callaway FT-i Drivers

Callaway FT-i Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The Callaway Golf® FT-i and FT-i Tour Drivers represent a quantum leap in driver design. To exploit our proprietary Fusion® Technology — the superior weight-shifting science developed by Callaway Golf that uses multiple materials in clubhead construction — the design demanded a new shape. With the revolutionary 460cc Complete Inertial Design, the FT-i Driver pushes the boundaries of shape, of our imagination, of the rules. This design precisely positions weight to the extreme corners of the clubhead, producing the highest Moment of Inertia of any Callaway Golf driver, resulting in unparalleled forgiveness. Our largest, most robust CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit as defined by the USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness. Also incorporated into the FT-i Driver is the OptiFit™ Weighting System that produces three center of gravity configurations: Draw, Neutral and Fade, enabling golfers to choose a combination to best suit their individual game. The FT-i Tour Driver features a slightly open face angle for a look preferred by more accomplished players. Designed by the industry’s leading minds, the FT-i Driver will break barriers of performance, distance and forgiveness.

460cc Complete Inertial Design
Positions discretionary weight to the extreme corners of the clubhead, raising the MOI for unparalleled resistance to twisting both horizontally and vertically, providing forgiveness on shots hit all over the face.

OptiFit Weighting System
Enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them three different CG locations to choose from in most lofts: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw. Fusion Technology
Proprietary technology creates maximum perimeter weighting and more discretionary weight for precise positioning of the CG and exceptional stability on off-center hits, enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. CT/VFT Titanium Cup Face
Modified version of VFT® Technology in which face thicknesses are designed specifically to maximize performance under the new USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in our largest most robust face for increased ball speed on shots hit all over the face.

Carbon Composite Body
The material used to make the body is significantly lighter than titanium, allowing Callaway Golf engineers to move discretionary weight where it is needed most, resulting in better stability and distance.

I liked this club alot when I first got it. The sleek look and the different noise it made when you hit the ball gives you a little attention on the driving range. Plus I could crush it off the tee. I guess I still do like it I just picked up this slice from somewhere and have still not gotten rid of it completley. I'm pretty sure its my fault not the club. I'm so tired of people saying it has an annoying sound when you hit it. Its not like its a constant sound and if thats all you think about after you hit it then you got problems maybe you should worry more about where the ball is going.

I've had this driver for 3 weeks. Liked it a lot more than my Callaway Hyper X driver. I noticed that I was hitting by ball longer and straighter, as advertised. A few days ago, I decided to pick up my speed and I crushed a shot 300 yds. I was so impressed with my shot that I didn't pay attention to the awkward sound that the club made when I hit it. My friend heard a rattling noise as I lowered the driver and then noticed a crack. There is a seal that separates the club face from the rest of the club head. That seal snapped exposing some carbon fiber in the rest of the head.
I am a relatively new golfer, but I don't think clubs are supposed to break that easy.
Luckily the store I bought it from is giving me a refund and I will try another brand.

Overall I believe Callaway has made a great product.

Ball Flight - High(Sometimes have to adjust when driving into the wind...some shot will ballon)

Distance - This driver is not the longest... I've actually noticed a slight increase in carry distance compared to the Callaway Big Bertha 454.

Accuarcy - This is where the FTi really shines. It has straighted out my drives tighting up my shot dispersion. I hitting about 2-5 more fairways because of this club.

Forgiving - Anywhere on the face produces decent shots that are in play. Hit the sweet spot and you will be rewarded.

Great Club....Good work Callaway!

I purchased the FT-i five days ago. I've been on the range every day trying to get the hang of this club. Last year when this model was newly released, I went to a Callaway demo day and I hit a bucket with this club. I liked it then. I could hit a decent draw, and my drives were just a bit longer than my Cleveland Hi-Bore XL.

Since last year I've bought & sold a dozen drivers on E-bay. My latest is a Titleist 975J with 9.5 degree face. Not as easy to hit as newer. larger body drivers, but when I hit the Titleist purely, the ball crack on impact & flight is a thing of beauty.

The FT-i is not the ideal club for me. I'm slicing the drives more often than I do with the Titleist. When I do hit the ball straight with the FT-i (by closing my stance & ball address an exagerated amount) I do hit the ball 25 yards longer than the Titleist.

The FT-i has annoying loud metallic high pitch "TING!" note when the ball is struck. I'm a musician, have sensitive ears. This club sounds like a bad sound effect - an "Aluminum anvil".

Well, the up side? I paid $150 new from an authorized Callaway dealer with shipping. Still I'm not in love with this club.

Don't tell my wife, but I'm going to sell the FT-i to purchase the Titleist D909 Comp.

Customer Service

I've used Callaway service twice on their re-furbished golf club sale website. Great guys! Friendly & helpful.

You name the brand & I've probably owned one & used it briefly. My favorite Drivers so far are the Titleist and Clevelands. I'd like to try the new Taylormade Burner.

Purchased this driver at Dicks after being fitted on their launch monitor. Played 9 holes and wasn't overly enamored with the club. It seemed I lost about 15-20 yards from my Nickent 3dx square and my old MacGregor V-Foil, (great club, by the way), so I stopped at my local driving range to try and work out the kinks. After two medium sized buckets the head cracked at the hosel! Needless to say I returned it immediately and got my money back, (with no problem).
Went on E-Bay later that night and purchased a Titleist 907 D2. Just waiting for it to arrive.

Customer Service

At Dicks, very good - no questions asked, (how could they really, I only had the driver for a day and a half).

Ok, here goes.....I first want to start by saying that most of the reviews were very helpful. They were a major factor in my purchase of the FT-i, so to all that took the time thanks.
I'm about an 18 handicap and drive the ball straight sometimes, sometimes hook it and sometimes slice it. I picked up a tip from my buddy, a guy a my golf shop, and picked up this new driver....
Let me just say I love this club!! The feel is great, the ball flies high and straight, and I don't think I've lost any distance on my drives as some reviewers stated. I took this thing to the driving range and just murdered the ball the same distance if not further than with my old driver. I bought one degree lower (9.5 instead of 10.5) and it is still flying at a great height and trajectory, even when I tee it lower. As far as working the ball goes, I don't normally like to hit anything other than straight balls, but I was able to still work it a bit on the range. I hit a few draws and fades just to try it out. It has definitely met my expections on the range and I will be taking it to the course this weekend.

On price.....now that all of the '09 models are out, you can basically find the older clubs for dirt cheap. For a club that was once $399-$499, I found it almost everywhere for $199. until I discovered it on eBay for $169 and free shipping, brand new wrapped up and unused!!

The best deal on a new club and it actually meets all of my expectations. I highly recommend trying one out!! Great golf club!!

The fti is a very well made club, I had the fti 10 degree with the 586 regular fujikura shaft, which is consider a stock shaft for this model. The shafts characteristics is low bend point high spin, high trajectory. Then I tried my friends fti with the 9.5 degree stiff 686 fujikura shaft, mid bend point, mid trajectory and medium ball spin. I out drove my driver by 15 to 20 yards. Next day went to pick up the same driver as my friends and I am very happy with this club. lesson to be learned take your time and try the different shafts that are available with this club it makes a big difference and you'll be glad you did...

I've tried 3 or 4 drivers with no real difference in my game. Usually 225-250 yard shots, fairly straight when Im having a good round. This driver has changed my game. Most of the difference is purely confidence at box to swing without knowing Im about to drive a ball into the woods. I went from hitting a few fairways a round to hitting 13 in the 2nd round of golf I played with this driver. By far the best golf investment I have made
