Callaway FT-5 Drivers

Callaway FT-5 Drivers

DESCRIPTION

The new FT-5 and FT-5 Tour Drivers are the latest evolution in clubhead design utilizing our revolutionary Fusion® Technology. A massive 50 grams of discretionary weight has been created using a Carbon Fiber Body — creating the OptiFit™ Weighting System that produces three center of gravity configurations: Draw, Neutral and Fade, enabling golfers to choose a combination to best suit their individual game. The larger, more robust CT/VFT Titanium cup face is designed to the legal limit, as defined by the USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in increased ball speed, distance and forgiveness — even on miss-hits. The FT-5 Tour Driver has a slightly open face for a look preferred by more accomplished players. The end result is exceptional distance, performance, accuracy and confidence.

Fusion Technology
Proprietary Fusion Technology creates an unprecedented 50 grams of discretionary weight which is strategically positioned for a high Moment of Inertia and precise lateral location of the center of gravity. This provides exceptional stability on off-center hits, while enabling ball flight customization for optimal individual performance. The 25-gram weight located at the rear of the driver lowers the CG for optimal trajectory.

OptiFit Weighting System
Enables golfers to customize their driver by giving them three CG locations to choose from in most lofts: Draw for promoting a draw or reducing a slice/fade; Neutral for maximum workability; or Fade for promoting a fade or reducing a hook/draw.

CT/VFT Titanium Cup Face
Modified version of VFT® Technology in which face thicknesses are designed specifically to maximize performance under the new USGA Characteristic Time test, resulting in a larger, more robust face for increased ball speed on shots hit all over the face.

460cc head design
A 460cc head volume is incorporated with a longer, wider and hotter face for more confidence at address, a higher MOI and increased ball speed for longer, straighter drives.

Carbon Composite Body
The material used to make the body is significantly lighter than titanium, allowing Callaway Golf engineers to move 50 grams of discretionary weight where it is needed most, resulting in better stability and distance.

I played pretty well on short game and decent iron play. Just could not hit driver and woods on fairway. Kept slicing the ball with previous models.

So for many years, I have been using a 4 wood to tee-up each hole. About 200 yards max. Hence, the high score.

With FT-5, the ball flight is dead straight, if not, fade. 250 yards is possible now and I am finally able to find birdie chances on par 4 and par 5.

Originally eyeing FT-3, but tested both and glad I chose FT-5. Worth the price cos my scores are coming down.

I am a Callaway club fan through and through. I do test other equipment but my bias and callaways performance keeps me with Callaway. I have both the FT-3 and an FT-5. I can't say one is longer than the other but the direction and ball flight are much more reliable with the FT-5. Great long and straight driver. I have custom shafts in both clubs and they have both been SST pured. I have an ACCRA in the FT-3 and a 757 Speeder (reg flex) in the FT-5. I know I said it earlier but the ball flight with the FT-5/Speeder combo is awesome. I always keep two drivers in case the honeymoon ends but the FT-3 is on the shelf for now. My previously second driver is my only departure from callaway. It's an SMT, 9 degree, BLACK Deep Bore with a UST V2 reg fully inserted and spined. I hit it straight with decent length but I hit it to low. So it has now moved from back up on the shelf to EBAY BAIT. I am sure its a great stick but it didn't work for me. Check out the FT-5 if you get a chance.

ps... If you have access to having a driver shaft fitting done, do it. I went to Performance Golf Academy in Houston where they use a launch monitor system that measures both launch and decent angles. What a tool. They dialed me into the shaft that comes down and rolls a few yards instead of just falling out of the sky.

FT-5 driver is very easy and make me feel compotabile by ultimate forgiveness. I used TM 580XD, Callaway X-460, and my average distance is 230 - 270, but consistancy and accuracy are lest than 50 %. So, I lost several balls whenever I playes a game. After I bouhgt FT-5, average distance is same as before, but accuracy is more than 80%. This is a magic wand for me !!! Whenever I hit a ball, golf ball is alway on the fairway!! I played 2 round after buying FT-5, I lost only 1 ball by iron shot and shoot in the 80s. (I use HX-tour ball, so not to lose a ball save my money~!!) I highly recommend many golfer who want to have a nice weekend with shooting good score. FYI, my swing speed is 105 mph, and I paid $ 330 for it.(This was DEMO driver).

Amazing, that's it. This club is sooooo easy to hit and the ball explodes of the clubface. The superlight club lets me swing smoothly so I don't have to rush and create an ugly shot. When I hit the ball it feels like the ball is stuck to my clubhead, I mean that's how smooth the impact is. I don't know if it's really worth $430 but it certainly is close. I previously had the original r7 but w/ all of the new advancements in technology these days, the clubhead of the r7 seemed so small. If you can't decide whether to get this or not, definately go for it.

I have sold the Big Bertha 460 and Taylor Made r7 - The FT-3 was my club of choice this year until I hit the FT-5 last round. Can't decide which I like better yet but both are winners and get five stars from me. The fusion technology is a winner.

Model Reviewed: Callaway FT5 10 degree draw reg shaft

I honestly think this is the best driver on the market. I had the Taylormade R7 quad and there is no comparison. This FT5 goes about 20 yards further. The draw set up has me hitting the ball right down the middle. I have been using a stiff shaft and swing the club about 115 mph. I'm shocked how good the regular flex fits that swing speed. I bought both the 10 degree and 9 degree to make sure I got the right stick. The 10 degree was the best for me and when I hit them both perfect, the result was minimal. I like to share good information and this is definitely the hottest club of the year! VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Did not care for this club. Reason? It has a 1 degree closed face at address. (even the "neutral" version is not square)
So it is a hook machine for low cappers. Sound is goofy as well. The tour version may help with the face issue, but the sound and feel are the deal breakers.

Model Reviewed: Callaway FT-5 Driver

Let me make this clear. If money is not an issue, this is the club that you need to buy. This is the first none TM driver that I've every purchased and liked (I bought and tried the original hiBore, was in love at first but couldn't get passed the closed face). I needed a driver that was forgiving and didn't have a severely closed faced, the only one that really qualified was the Callaway FT-5 (Burner, SuperQuad, Nike, all have closed faces in the non-tour versions).

I was skeptical, because of the price and the fact that I don't own anything Callaway. Gorgeous at adress, the club is bigger than it looks at adress and has a more traditional look. The sound is absolutely gorgeous. Very hot off of the face, although the feel is a bit muted (which, for some reason, I've gotten used too and doesn't really bother me). Distance, of course, is phenominal. I'm about a 240-270 driver, my best being 300+ on a hot day and this driver really delivers when hit on the button.

What I love best about this driver, however, is the lack of feel on hits and the feel on miss-hits. Let me explain. When you hit this driver on the button, you almost wonder if it was a good hit because there isn't much to feel (although the sound is very distinct for on the button hits). When you miss-hit, you can feel where on the clubface you miss-hit, but you are still rewarded with an decent drive. This club is literally helping me imporve my swing every time I use it.
