Callaway FT-5 tour
Read a lot of reviews on the FT-5, was looking for a higher level "tour" driver for that little bit extra control and distance. Nabbed one for a song on eBay. WOW. Took it to driving range, did nothing but hard fades off of rubber tees ... took it to the course for a practice round, entirely different beast. LOOONG, workable, very stable, great launch and roll, just inspired confidence at every level, and I have some very good other drivers. Shafts are very personal, but the stock RCH-75 stiff was perfect for my modest swing speed. IN THE BAG. Because it is workable, on my bad swing days this one might get ugly, but on good days it is just sweetness. Similar Products Used: Exotics, KZG Gemini |

if you ever get a chance to pick one of these up at a good price ... jump on it. this driver is amazing. the ball jumps off the face with a beautiful ball flight. looong. so long. i recently bought a taylormade '07 burner, and this club puts it to shame. i took the burner to the range the day after i bought it, and it hit okay, but not once did i fly the 250 sign on the range. also, the sound was piercing my eardrums. got my ft-5 for $75 off ebay (in great shape) and took it out to the same range. after hitting just one ball (though it leaked right on me), it was clear that this driver was in a different class than any taylormade i've ever hit. i flew that 250 sign over 20 times out of a bucket of 70 balls. feel is amazing. the sound is perfect. the driver is very aesthetically pleasing, as well. i am now looking for a 3 wood to match, and will definitely purchase another ft-5 just for back up if i can get it at a good price. if you are on the fence about this driver, just buy it. you will not regret it. best golf purchase i've made to date. i understand how phil is averaging over 300 yds now. Customer Service have not used yet Similar Products Used: taylormade burner '07 9.5

I have been golfing for about 20 years and have always played Taylormade woods. It wasn't until the last few years that I actually made an effort to understand the golf swing and take it seriously enough to where my clubs actually mattered and post some respectable scores...finally! My last driver was a Taylormade R7 Superquad which I felt was too lunky for my swing. I saw a new Callaway Hyper X driver and a new FT-5 driver in a closeout bin for a great price due to their age and was about to buy the Hyper X because it was my understanding it was a bit more forgiving. At the salesman's urging, I purchased the FT-5. Wow, I couldn't be happier. Everyone tells me about the Callaway hollow sound, both good and bad, but the feel of a smoked drive off of this thing is beyond compare. I decided to pick up a Callaway 3-wood as well. Long and straight and workable. Might stick with Callaway from here on out. Customer Service As far as the service I received from the salesman, I have been very pleased. I haven't had any direct dealings with Callaway outside of that stores representative. Similar Products Used: Taylormade R580, R580XD, R5, R7 Superquad and now the Callaway FT-5. Will consider the FT9 but am currently very satisfied with my results from the FT5 and am in no hurry to change equipment at this time. |

Used an FT-5 for a couple of rounds and am not a fan of Callaway at all. I used the 9.5 deg neutral with a stiff fujikura shaft and i found the club to be very responsive. Very low super penetrating ball flight, easily shaped but more importantly gun barrel straight when asked to be. I was outdriving my playing partner who usually betters me by 15-20yds by that distance myself but it will not find a permanent spot in the bag as i can't get past the Callaway 'clunk'. |

I play off 25 handicap and I usually drive avg 320 yrds, now my avg is 420 with this club.... why does every review sound like that??!! people are pathetic. Realistically this club is very forgiving and has helped me gain the consistency off the tee, it wants to go straight all the time. I have gained around ten yards from my previous driver (bang), due to it being easier to catch the center of the club face. I got this for 70 quid on ebay, a good deal from a reputable dealer. Callaway know how to make drivers, and the FT-5 is a classic. Highly recommended. And remember guys, don't listen to the bullsh*t reviews people leave. The FT-5 is good, but its no miracle club that doubles your driving distance. Customer Service n/a Similar Products Used: Bang Storm, R7, Rapture |

I was glad to get the FT-5 driver this spring on special because of the reviews I read on the net. Left my Srixon 506 aside for the summer and tried to control this driver which I never could. Lost many yards driving and went from left to right. My handicap went down. After four months I went back to my Srixon 506 and got 25 yards more on my drives and they are all straight. So Callaway FT-5 is really not for me. I recommend that this driver should be tried out before buying. |

FT-5 Callaway Driver
At the age of 39, I found myself relocating to Minnesota (and with plenty of free time.) I always wanted to take up golf, and decided to buy new clubs in June of 2009. I did A LOT of research on my own, however after consulting with a local golf pro and testing several "tour"-style drivers, he recommended I try the FT-5. Despite the fact that the model I tested was a few years old, he insisted that it had a reputation as a very forgiving driver that should improve my accuracy dramatically. He was right. I loved it, and purchased a neutral FT-5 with a stock shaft through Callaway pre-owned for around $200.) Again, on my pro's recommendation, I was fitted for a new shaft. I went with a Bassara V63 S Flex and I couldn't be happier. The shaft made a REALLY big difference. I'm not a big hitter (240-260) but after working with the pro on my swing tempo and mechanics my accuracy has gone through the roof! I recently shot a 94 (my previous best was 105) and hitting 13 of 18 fairways was the reason. This is a great club for somebody just getting into golf.) Customer Service This driver came with a 12 month warranty, and from what I've read here, Callaway seems like a very reliable company. I have gone through a lot of drivers over the years: TaylorMade R7, Nike Sasquatch, Cobra 460. By far, this is the best driver I've come across. First, it's just hot off the face. The ball seems to jump off the head. With the R7, I was averaging about 230 with a good shot going 250. With the FT-5, I'm averaging 250 and the good shots going 270-280. I got the draw bias model, and while it doesn't completely cure my slice, it keeps me in the fairway much more often.
Customer Service Great. I bought the club used for $200 from Roger Dunn. A few weeks ago, the head came loose from the shaft. I called Callaway and they immediately emailed me a UPS mailing label to ship them the club. They are now sending me a brand new replacement club. That's great customer service. |
