Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Big Ben C-S3

My friend has a Cleveland Launcher 460, and it is a great club, the benchmark for drivers. I believe that the Ben Hogan C-S3 performs up to this benchmark and sometimes even exceeds it! When hitting the Launcher, the ball flight is long and penetrating, and is easily shapeable. If a bad shot is hit, it is only through the fault of the golfer. The C-S3 is, in my opinion, every bit as long as the Launcher: I tried both clubs out on a simulator at Golftown and was averaging something like 1 yard more with the C-S3. The face is very hot, every bit of the COR can be felt as the ball springs off the clubhead. I also directly compared it to the Taylor Made R5, and found that this one is much hotter off the face and more forgiving (the R5 has a face that is too deep and does not have much horizonal forgiveness). I also believe that this club is more forgiving than any other I have tried. It is not as large as other clubs (the Launcher is 460 CC, the TaylorMade R5 has 450 CC) but at address it looks every bit as large and inviting as the larger models. On off center hits, it also does not deviate in terms of distance and direction as much as I would have expected, off center hits are almost as good as center hits. When I take a good rip at it, the ball flight is quite penetrating (unless a swing fault of mine prevents this) and very long and straight. Some people have complained about a "hollow feel" or "tin can" sound, but I don't see it that way. It simply has a different energy distribution than other clubs, but this club feels SOLID! It does make a loud sound when struck well, but when you will be hitting it down the fairway long and straight, I doubt it will be any bother. The shaft already matches perfectly with the club, so there is no need to get a special shaft: the Aldila NV 70-H is a really good shaft designed specially for this driver, all that needs to be selected is the flex. One word of caution, some people simply buy golf clubs without tying them and getting them fitted properly. This driver does fly higher than other models with the same loft. This is not a bad thing, it just needs to be taken into account. So if you normally play a 10.5 deg, the C-S3 9.5 should be good, one degree less loft should do the trick. I Have a 7.5 deg and XS shaft, and it flies slightly higher than the Launcher (but it does not start low and then shoot up, it simply starts on a trajectory with low spin and maintains it for the duration of the shot) This is really a great golf club, at a discount price! You can get them on EBAY for a great price. I have tried a lot of equipment out there, and the C-S3 is just the best. If you are looking for a driver, look no further, just don't forget to get the proper specs first.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan CS-3 9.5 Stiff(Nuetral)

I was using a Callaway BB 360cc driver w/Aldila NVS Stiff shaft before swithing to this driver. I had been fairly happy with my Callaway driver as I was fairly straight off the tee, and I could work the ball when swinging well, but I was really being outdriven by my usual playing partners(20-40 yds)even on good drives. Nothing is more demoralizing than thinking you really smacked one only to stop at your ball 40 yards behind your buddy. I average about 250 off the tee when I'm driving the ball well, but 1-2 times a round I'll get one out 270 or so. I was really looking for a driver that would save me yards on miss hits. I compared several models in a simulator/launch monitor-Nike Ignite 460, Titleist 905T, Ping G2, Callaway 454, Mizuno MP-001 400cc, and Ben Hogan all with the green Aldila NV shaft(which I have in my Mizuno MP-001 3 wood-very consistant feel and performance). I was hitting the ball between 255+ on decent shots with all drivers, but I was surpised to find that my misses with the 400cc Titleist and 420cc Ben Hogan drivers were much longer then those of the bigger headed drivers. I had all intentions before the session of simply upgrading my Callaway 360 to the 454. I decided to demo the Titelist and Ben Hogan drivers. The Titleist driver was okay at the range, but I was dissapointed with my driving when I took the club to the course. I didn't hit a really long drive all day, and was terribly inconsistant-eventually bagging it in favor of my 3 wood off the tee. I demoed the Ben Hogan next going straight to the range. I hit only 5 drives- all 270+. Lightning nearby ended my practice session early, but the next day I took the driver to my favorite course. I had my longest ever drives on holes 1,5,8,10,11, and 13, and I shot 40 through the first 9 holes with 5 pars and 1 birdie, my best front nine score on this course by 3 shots. I was surprised to find my misses much longer and closer to the fairway than I expected, and I was still able to work the ball. I have yet to break 80 shooting 83 3 times. All three rounds can be characterized by short & irratic drives off the tee, great iron shots, pin point chips, and solid putting. I know that switching drivers isn't going to magically change me into a pro golfer, but I feel very confident off the tee with this club. I feel like I am longer on good drives, and my misses are not as far back or as far off line as I would normally expect. I have always felt that increasing my driving distance was the key point of improvement needed to get past that 83 hump, and start playing in the 70's. I am very happy with my purchase, it is helping my game, and I would recomend it to anyone.

Got this driver, Ben Hogan C-S3 9,5 draw bias, 2 days ago, been with me for 2 rounds. Feels good, goes straight, only thing is the sound that is a little bit to "tin can" for my taste. It is dead straight to me (usually sprays them in both directions during a round, something like 3-4 fairway hits a round), distance equals other tested. Second round with it I hit all fairways (13 out of 13). This is my driver.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan C-S3!!!

Well, I live in Georgia and I go to the PGA superstore about 3 times a week! Its amazing, and I was desperatley in need of a driver. I had a Nike 400cc, BAD IDEA! Well, I set up a lesson to get new woods and I tried the Nike Ignite, Callaway Big Bertha 454, Titleist 905T, King Cobra 460 SZ, Taylormade r5 and r7, Ping G2, and Ben Hogan C-S3. Too many reasons why I didn't like these drivers. I narrowed it down to 2 choices, the Taylormade r7 and the Ben Hogan C-S3. At my local club, I tested them for 18 holes each. The Ben Hogan first, I hit all but 2 Fairways and added and easy 25 yards to my drives. With the amazing sweetspot and the unbelievable sound when the ball comes off I loved This club. The r7, It was a mess. A horrible idea by Taylormade. My weights were loose about every 3 holes, and when I did hit a good shot, It didn't go as far as the Ben Hogan. All in all, the Ben Hogan, in my opinion, is the best driver on the market, and everyone needs it!

Customer Service

Great!!my club happily let me test the clubs for 36 holes! and the PGA Superstore's customer service is amazing!!!

Model Reviewed: C-S3 Neutral 9.5*

Let me begin by stating that I am a little bit of what you call a golf club ho. I'm contantly trying new clubs out to find which one is the best for my game. In the past my normal ball flight was a power fade which every once in a while had a tendency to get out of control. I bought a Taylormade R5 Dual Draw model hoping this would correct the problem I was having with too many high right balls with my Nike Ignite driver. I even bought an extra one with a higher loft thinking that I would hit that better. I hit it pretty good most of the time but was never completely consistant with it and not as long as I would like. Luckily one of my local courses was having a big demo day with every manufacturer you could think of present. I headed down there and tried every brand of driver they had available. I expected the Ping G2 to be my favorite. It didn't really feel or look much different than my R5. The best driver, in my opinion, was the Titleist 905T. I hit 10 balls with it and they all had a boering trajectory with a slight draw. The only problem is the price at $400 a pop. I then tried the Hogan driver and was more than pleasently surprised. It seemed to fly forever and go straight as an arrow. After about 8 rounds of golf with it, my opinion hasn't changed. I'm around 20 yards longer with this club and seem to find the fairway much more consistancy than with the R5. I also noticed that my misses aren't nearly as bad. I was really surprised to like the neutral model but I'm drawing it better than I did the R5 draw model also. The guy at the demo day mentioned that the shaft in this club is specifically tuned for the head to give you better performance and I believe he's right. I still would have loved to get that Titleist driver but at only $290 this driver was the better value. I hope to keep it in my bag for a while.

Customer Service

Haven't used but the guy working for them at the demo day was really friendly.

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan CS-3 Driver

Got the stiff shaft with neutral weight and like what I've seen so far. The shaft seems perfectly tuned to the driver. Feels great. I have an easy time fading the ball with this club, but couldn't get it to draw that well, but that could be me. No club will make you a good driver if your swing sucks, but this is a very good driver that will hit it straight and far if you swing hard and square the face. Beautiful too. I think it's longer than the Wilson Deep Red II, not as easy to work as my old Ping TiSi Tec, much more forgiving than my Steelhead III. Got one new on ebay for $180.00

Model Reviewed: Ben Hogan Big Ben C-S3

The Ben Hogan C-S3 is simular to the Taylormade R5 with fixed weights to correct ball flight.Since I tend to have a left to right ball flight I picked the draw model with a stiff shaft 10.5 degree. My last driver was a Cleveland 400 stiff which I think might be alittle longer hitter than the C-S3 but the C-S3 draw model does seem to correct my ball flight in many shots better than the 400.I have been to the range twice and now I think I can say that I can see some benefits in ball flight correction with the C-S3 but it will not correct a strong left to right ball flight path for sure. The Adila NV shaft seems to work well but I seem to get a very high ball flight with this 10.5 degree model vs the Cleveland 10.5 degree model.I wish I had the 9.5 model now.Standard BH grip velvet which I like.Neat stand out lime green shaft colour. The head cover is dark green and gray-ok-but does not really match the club that well and hard to slip on.All in all a good solid club but you should test before buying to make sure it suits your swing and to find if you need the draw or the neutral model. The sound to my ears anyway is not as pleasant to the ears as the 400 and some other clubs but thats personal taste. All my clubs are BH so had to have that matching driver!!!!

Customer Service

I had some trouble with ferrules on graphite shafted BH hybrids.I bought clubs on Ebay new but live in asia-I emailed BH to ask where to service and never got a reply.
