Shoots in the 70s
Model Reviewed: Affinity 440 ATS Beta Titanium Forged Driver 10.5

Up until about 5 years ago, I was more than happy to continue to play with a Ram Blades and Traditional Woods that my father had given me (handed down)in 1982. Even though I was playing good golf with these shooting in the 70's, I would constantly recieve razzing from my buddies on the course with thier Taylor Made and Calloway sets. It has always been my philosophy that it is the golfer and not the club that determines the talley on the scorecard. With that said I reluctantly broke down and started to assemble a more modern set. Not the newest technology but much more modern than what I was playing with. First I got a '96-'98 set of Taylor Made Oversize Burner Irons handed down yet again from my father, Next my wife bought me a 3 and 5 fairway wood from Ram (Balistiks). My final purchase was the Affinity 440 ATS Beta Titanium Forged 10.5 Driver with a Altila HM-65 Reg Flex-350 Tip shaft. I picked up the driver from a clearance bin at the Air Force Exchange store in Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio for, get ready, $30.00. Now I told you I already shot in the 70's, occassional low 80's but this driver made my already long drives longer and more consistant. I find I average about 30 to 40 yards more with this driver and slice much less frequently. I consistanly drive the ball about 290 to 310 yards depending on wind conditions. Now when I play with the guys and outdrive them, I ask how that $300.00 driver is working out for them when more often than not I am outdriving them or right with them. Don't be fooled by brand names, there are a lot of good clubs out there with out the hefty price tag. Buy the no-name and put the remaining money in your kids college account or take the wife out for a nice evening. You will score more points of the course and cut down on your stroke on the course.
