Great shape, unique holes and layout.

Played the treeless Irish in August. I would not recommend playing out of season due to the winds by the lake. Bring plenty of balls, because without a forecaddie you will lose balls in the fescue that you think you have a bead on. A great course in near perfect condition but if you are going to play either the Straits course or Irish spend the extra dough and go with the Straits. Better views right on the water and possibly the best public course in the world. I'd put the Irish #3 in priority behind the Straits and the nearby River Course at Blackwolf Run in Kohler, WI. The Sheboygan, WI area is probably the #2 golf resort area in the country behind Pebble Beach.

Beautiful wooded terrain and lake views. Challenging, but true breaks on the greens (a two put is good). Most holes are so secluded that it feels like you're the only group on the course - very private. Caddies can be extremely friendly, knowledgable and helpful.

Service has gone downhill in the last few years, prices have risin dramatically, many holes on the Straits course feel like the same hole. Restaurants average, rooms are expensive and small ($350-550 per night).

The River Course is definately one of the most beautiful and enjoyable courses in the country, and the Meadow is not far behind. The Irish and Whistling straits are overpriced, but both offer some great views of the Lake from several holes. These courses are definately not meant for anyone who can't play bogey golf or better. The service was spectacular five years ago, but has gone down every year. Expect prices to continue to rise with the upcoming PGA tournament. Spring for the $10 yardage book, you won't regret it.

The greens were very fast, yet you could get the ball to stick, and even come back a little, putted true.

Sometimes the course may ask the golfer to due things not in his or her vocabulary of things that he/she can do. (ex., hit a 280 tee shot strait, so you can have any sorta shot into the green)

I play for a private high school that is located in my area, and our coach was lucky enough to set us up in a meet against another private school who's home course in BlackWolf Run. We were able to play the Meadow Valley Course, which was in great condition. I was a Freshman at the time and shot 41, so course isn't extremely hard, but fun, alot of times you must place a tee shot in a certain area to have a shot at the green. Course is located half in a valley and half wooded, Very beautiful and breath taking coming into the clubhouse area, amazing.

Workers were amazingly nice, and wore black knickers. Pretty funny and neat.

Irish - very playable for all with multiple tees, great scenery. Loved the 13th blind par three but most will probably think it is unfair.
Straits - Course Layout, awesome scenery along the lake. Multiple tees make it enjoyable for all.

Irish - Most will not like rough, uneven lies abound in fairway. You can use a cart but cart path only (you will walk allot).
Straits - Forced to use caddie, pace is on slow side.

Both courses are expensive Irish (168.00) Straits (220.00+Tip= 250.00). Seem like typical resort courses a little too expensive for average person too enjoy.

Irish Course - Tees and greens are in great shape, course just opend two weeks ago. Greens are undulating and run about a 9-10 (fast) on the stimp. The fairways are in great shape (no carts on fairways) but do not expect many even lies. Keep the ball in the short stuff, we all lost one ball just off the fairway. The rough is no bargain and can be long and very thick even around the greens.

Straits - Tees and greens are in good shape, greens run about same speed as the Irish course. The fairways are a fescue and are longer than what we normally see (but you get very good lies). Off the fairway is not groomed so expect some bad lies, you will be challenged.

Exceptional course layout! The River course has it all! Water, sand, bunkers, dog legs! The River course meanders along and around the river that winds through. The Meadows Valley course is just that - partly in the high meadows, and partly in the river valley. This course is more open than the River, but shot placement is still key. More elevation changes on this course. I'm not a long hitter, but still found that club selection and ball placement was key to a good score. Oh, yeah - take balls - lots of balls!The course is maintained to tournament specs at all times. Wonderful staff - truly a great golf experience!

My only complaint was on two par-3's. The par-3, 13th hole on the River course seemed to be un-fair. From the Blue tees, it's 192 yds., mostly over the river. To play a "safe" shot onto the fairway, you need to hit a high (very!) fade over some mature trees. It's tough! The par-3 15th on the Meadoes Valley course is another I thought to be a bit un-fair. It's 196 yds. - all carry - over a brushy ravine onto a sloping green that is 35 yds wide and 48 yds long. The green falls off on all sides into the ravine. There is no bail-out or "safe" area. That's it, my only two complaints!

Blackwolf Run is a 36-hole golf complex, divided into the River Course and the Meadow Valleys Course. What can I say about these courses that hasn't already been said. These courses have ranked among the top 25 nationally since completion. The relationship between Herb Kohler and Pete Dye has produced some of the best golf holes in the world! Visiting Kohler, WI (just on the western edge of Sheboygan, WI)and playing on these courses is a total golf experience. If you plan on playing the courses, plan on staying at the American Club, or one of the two resort complexes in Kohler - you won't be disappointed! Also, plan on playing the newest course, Whistling Straits. The 2004 PGA Championship is to be played there, and this is your chance to play it before the pros!
