I played the Old White course in the Summer of 2007. I'm writing this review after an experience at La Costa in Carlsbad, California, this Summer that made me wish we'd gone back to The Greenbrier! The Old White was my choice due to the history of the place and I tried to picture Sam Snead at every turn. Like others have said here, it's challenging and from the blue tees was a long course for me. The course was in perfect shape. I did find a few greens to be very sloped, almost to a comical level, but they made it fun. I used the practice area and it was also fantastic. If you go there, be sure to leave time before and after your round to use these areas. I have not played the other two courses there but plan to when I go back. Customer Service What can I say.....this is where they shine. I showed up and the starter told me what cart my bag was on and it was parked below. I also noticed a nice Greenbrier tag on my bag that rides on there one year later. Such a nice little touch. The starter asked if I'd like to play alone or with a three-some headed out. I chose to play with the other group and he took the time to introduce me to them. Once finished with my round, my clubs were wiped down and they disappeared back to storage until your next round. Customer service is one part of the golf experience there that is hard to quantify! Great job, Greenbrier! Similar Products Used: None |

The Greenbrier Resort has 3 courses - Old White, Meadows, and Greenbrier, each has a separate personality. Old White is the oldest and was recently renovated; it's greens are challenging, almost gimmicky in some cases, and the course is generally flat, but there are some very difficult holes and now may be the most challenging overall. It's hardest to play the first time when you can't see many of the obstacles/green contours from where you stand. Meadows is the newest (1960s) and probably easiest, but it features many narrow fairways. Greenbrier is probably the signature course, visually impressive holes, lots of elevation changes, water, and other challenges. All three are fun to play and if you plan a trip be sure to try them all.
Customer Service Wonderfully helpful staff, what you get from a classic resort. |

without a doubt one of the most scenic, well manicured courses i've ever played. it rivalled Kapalua in Maui as far as striking scenery. i played the Greenbrier and Meadows courses. fairways, greens, bunkers were all in great shape. the greens were actually soft, and putting was a challenge b/c the grain and wind had more effect than i'm used to in Texas. the mountain backdrop, and trees covered with fall colors added to the experience. it was a little pricey, but i won't soon forget it. when i go back i plan to play all 3 courses, including the Old White which has been renovated in the last couple of years. Customer Service excellent, but then again you pay thru the nose! Similar Products Used: pricewise: Kapalua (in Maui), several in Vegas, Scottsdale |

Played this course 2x this past summer. Every time I have played there it has been in fantastic condition. The scenery is also amazing. This course was designed in the 1920s or 30s and touched up by Nicklaus in the late 70s prior to the Ryder Cup being played there. The hotel has a fantastic spa so if your wife does not play let her go there and get a couple of rounds in! |
