POOR! The front nice is much better than the back 9. Good place for the senior or beginning player. WAY overpriced for the horrible conditions. Better players, avoid this course.

Not much to review on. They do have a shag area just off the course that is a good practice area for beginners.

A good course to play front 9 especially in early morning. The back 9 is on steep hill, it is not very enjoyable no matter you are walking or driving. If you are beginner like me, avoid the back 9 at all cost. It will destroy your day.

Tall Chief is just about the shortest regulation 18-hole course you'll ever play at only about 5,200 yards from the "tips". (On most holes the difference between the white tees and the blue tees is about 5 yards.)

The front and back sides are completely different. The front
starts off with a nice tee shot from an elevated tee down to the first fairway. After that the front nine is flat as a pancake. The only thing that keeps the front nine from being a complete pushover is small greens and a couple of nice par threes. The 138-yard 5th hole is well bunkered and the green slopes away from the tee making it more challenging that it's length might indicate. And the 185-yard 7th hole plays as the toughest hole on the front side.

The back nine starts off with a 350-yard par four that features one of the smallest, trickiest greens you'll ever see. After the easy par 4 11th hole, the hard part of Tall Chief begins. The rest of the back nine is played across the side of a steep hill, so you better know how to handle a side hill lie -- we're talking about places where you can be swinging at a ball that lies a foot above your feet -- in the middle of the fairway.

Tall Chief has generally small tee boxes that get chewed up pretty bad most years, so it's not uncommon to be teeing off from bare dirt or occassionally a mat. The fairways are not irrigated (unless you count winter floods from the Snoqualime river) so they get pretty dry, brown and fast in summer, making the course play even shorter. The greens are usually in good shape but they tend to be slow becasue they keep them pretty soft to give players a chance at holding shots into the small targets. Course conditions can be pretty ragged at times because 11 holes sit in a flood plain, and the rest are on such a steep slope that maintenance appears to be a challenge.

Water comes into play only on the 9th and 10th holes. Most of the sand traps on the course are shallow. There is very little OB, but deep woods and gullys will eat a few balls if you spray it around on the back nine.

Tall Chief can be a fun place to play because it's short and easy. Beginners will love the front side, but hate the back nine. Experienced players will get a little bored playing all of the par fours with a three wood and a half-wedge.

It's an easy course to walk. The course gets very sloppy in winter.

Customer Service

A very friendly place.

They have a couple of small shag-your-own practice areas; one where you can hit up to a six or seven iron and another where you can practice pitch shots out to about 40 yards. The practice green is tiny.
