East Potomac is like finding 20 bucks when your broke, its nice. The course has three courses, a challenging par three course great for a early warm up before your buddies get there, a hackers course- 9 hole hole executive thats wide open and great for beginning golfers, thats where i first started playing. Many players will say its to easy but ask them if theyve ever shot par there or anywhere for that matter. And then there is the blue course. Its an open forgiving course adn if you hit the occasional big fade or even uncontrollable slice she forgives you and lets you play from the other fairway most of the time. Becareful when playing against the fences there are not safety nets and cars do get dinged, who am i kidding, killed! Its flat and the lies are good. Course is well kept and its a nice day. Because of the great value make your tee times early especially on the weekend.

East Potomac is an island unto itself. Literally. Sitting on a man made peninsula of trash smack in the middle of the river, it does offer spectacular views of the Washington and Jefferson monuments, as well as thundering roars from short take off jets at National airport. Its eclectic mix of people a la Caddyshack makes you expect Carl the groundskeeper to walk up with a hose between his legs.
The course is flat, wide, and windy, with some holes playing with the wind, and the others playing directly into the wind. The greens are good for the most part, a couple are straight up patchy, with reads going right out the window. If it rains or has rained, go home or stay home. All in all, for its value, convenience and proximity, it can't be beat. Where else can you see Japanese businessmen dressed to the nines playing behind Mr. & Mrs. Duffer? And enjoying themselves?

I have played all courses numerous times, and the red par3 is in the best overall condition. the blues and whites are longer and more challenging, but you can't beat the red 9 for teaching and building confidence in new golfers.

Well you see, there are so few golf courses in Washington, DC, you have to adjust your sights a little. This course serves an important need. That is to have someplace to play that is near work. Convenience is an important aspect here. The course(s), starting with the championship course is flat as the entire island was dredged up from the river and filled also with trash from DC. It is right smack in the middle of the potomac, but it's a pretty big island. If it's been raining, f'get about it. The setting is unique with the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument and many other DC landmarks visible. The greens are quite good and that is important as it makes up for some of the shortcomings. There is also a nine hole par 3 course and a nine hole executive course with challenging greens complexes. It's worth playing for the experience and the unique setting and it's cheap. Good practice facility too. I love DC and this course has some things to like too.
