Shoots in the 80s

Classic old style shotmaker's course, as old as it gets (they used to play PGA events here in the 19-0's) and the routing was finalized by Tilinghast, the guy who made Winged Foot and Bethpage Black. Small greens are nice but slow due to limited budget which (wisely) values the long term health of the greens over impressing outsiders. As a result even when the rest of the area is burned up by the occasional drought these greens are still OK. If you're looking for a great place to join (quite cheaply) to play nine after work or whenever you can to get in some high quality practice (I'd always rather play than go to the range) you won't find better in this area. I didn't want to join a full-fledged county club because I like to play a variety of courses, I'm too young and not married, and I can't see investing 10-20K (minimum buy-in for a decent country club in this area) to play the same course all the time. Used to be an 18-holer but they sold the other nine to create the school next door. Enjoy while you can, the land trust that owns the place loses the lease in 2025 and there's no way it will be around a day past the expiry date due to cheap members who would never pay to save it (myself included) and real estate values. No par 5's but if you want you can still hit every club in your bag (even though driver is certainly not necessary). Playing here regularly will make you a substantially better golfer (read: it ain't easy - hilly and tight). It's a fantastic value and time saver, I can get finished with nine in an hour and 15 on a day when I'm walking fast or 1:45 when hitting two balls and walking slow. A course for those who aren't stuck up and can deal with golf without a driver. Good bar for after the round and decent gym (very cliquish) if you want to pay extra for it.

Customer Service

Friendly pro and assistants who aren't overbearing and are well aware of what their niche is.
