Scenic course, layout can play as hard or easy as the tees you pick. Lots of options how to play many holes. Scenery is second only to Bandon Dunes and Aspen Lakes for Oregon Courses. I rate the total experience as good as Bandon if not better. While the golf is better at Bandon, this is close, the weather better, and the price much better.

Setting, staff, course design

This Southern Oregon course has to be one of the most enjoyable resort courses anywhere. The setting is superior, the layout is "feel-good" and the upkeep is impeccable.

It's an Arnold Palmer layout, and as with many of Palmer's courses, there's ample landing area off the tee. It is particularly friendly to women, as the red tees are placed in such a way as to make each hole equal challenge to what the men face.

The first four holes play along a marshland area with birds and otters often your only gallery. It then plays to a high point on the course and back down on the par-4 ninth to a fairway and green far below the tee boxes.

The back nine is less protected by trees, and more subject to the high desert environment.

There's a great pro shop and dining room in the clubhouse, and a lodge a short ways away for overnight accommodations. Running Y may not be the most luxurious resort in which you've ever stayed (certainly more than adequate though), but it is relaxing and friendly.

I highly recommend this course and resort for anyone who wants to play great golf, stay in a nice lodge, enjoy the myriad wildlife of this part of Oregon, and are not in a big hurry. Here, you slip off the wristwatch, turn off the cell phone and computer and enjoy yourself thoroughly.
