This course is a very well maintained renovation of a Perry Maxwell design by Robert Cupp. If you knew the old course, you can still see most of the routing and feel the similarities, but conditioning and actual holes are now completely different. Course has great practice facilities for Sooner team golfers; not quite as good for general public. Greens are usually lightning fast but they just re-did them and I have not played the new greens. USGA Publinx is scheduled for this course in 2009.

Customer Service

Tends to be quite inconsistent. Sometimes they seem very friendly; sometimes they seem like they are doing you a favor by taking your money.

Greens are perfect and approach shots provide a challenge because many greens are elevated and fairway shots are not always level.

It's very long if you walk. Don't walk.

This course still feels like "OU" of yesteryear, but the revamped design and upgrade to the turf makes it the best public course in the state. If you are not a long hitter, play The Trails or Westwood.

A major strength of the layout is that from either far back tees or the second to the farthest tee the course requires all the clubs in your bag. Also, there is a good mix of short and long par 4's, as well as short and long par 3's. The course takes advantage of a creek that runs through it, which results in some elevation changes and two very visually appealing par 3 holes. Another strength is the general condition of the course - top notch. A final strength is that in some ways it is like a new course thanks to the recent renovation; but in other ways it is like an old course in that are numerous large, mature trees that come into play.

Perhaps one weakness is that it seems no matter when you play the course, the rough is rather long which can result in lenthy searches for balls that are only 15 feet into the rough. This results in some delays and frustration. Also, the fairways really don't completely fill in until late spring. Prior to that there are often holes in the fairways where the grass has yet to fill in. This is ususally not an issue after late spring.

Since undergoing a major overhaul, the OU Golf course is absolutely top notch. It is extremely well maintained, although at times the bunkers become quite packed making them hard to hit out of. Fairways are mowed extremely tight, as are the greens.
