I really enjoyed this course. The bay and ocean breezes made it very challenging

Shoots in the 90s

Lido is one of the more challenging public course on Long Island. It offers some scenic holes (Situated on the bay), cat tail roughs, and nicely layed our water holes. Aside from some minor cosmetic enhancements and better maintenance needed, Lido is one of the better and more challenging public courses on Long Island.

I played this course back in the 80s and it was in a whole lot better condition. A couple of holes are funky. This course needs some tender loving care.

Lido is right on the bay, so as you would expect there are several holes with water involved. None tougher than the par 5 #16, & thr par 3 #17. The 16th involves a tee shot to an island with a double fairway. Carry the water on your 1st & 2nd shots & you can birdie it. But 1 or 2 shots in the water & you're looking at 8,9 or 10! When the wind is blowing, #17 could just be about the hardest par 3 on Long Island! 185yds + peninsula green + wind = TROUBLE! I've played here several times, the course is usually in good shape, but on occasion, i've encountered less than ideal conditions.

Course is right on the water and is very well laid out for a public/municipal course.
Has a number of "interesting" and challenging holes that force you to really play 2 or 3 shots ahead at all times.
Unfortunately one drawback on this course is DRAINAGE. It's right on the bay and has a number of canals and jettys that cause parts of the course to be damp to wet at most times. I've played on several occassions where some of the fairways have long streches under 2 or 3 inches of water (2 or 3 days after rain). The greens can tend to be very wet as well.
The clubhouse was recently renovated and expanded offering more amenities and a much more comfortable atmosphere including an expanded locker room/shower area, new bar/restaurant area and an expanded pro shop. Great course for the location and price.

Shoot in the 80s

The greens, fairway and tees all need to be taken care of better. The course can be improved up by fixing up the sandtraps (people who play never rake them and rakes are hard to come by) getting the grass in the rough to grow and defining the fairways better. If all of these things were done the course would be 100x more challenging and pituresque. The course is a challenge but there is still a lot to improve upon...esp the rough.
