Been playing here for years. I find it to be the most challenging course in the area especially from the back tees and I only play them when I'm in a masochistic mood. 1st and 2nd Hole play right to left. 3rd Hole is a birdie par 5 if you hit to right but watch out for OB. 4th Hole straight and far. 5th Hole right to left. A poke on the long par 3 6th. Hit to the right then uphill to the 7th par 5. Keep to the left on the 8th hole. Hit to the right on par 3 9th,the ball will bounce off the hill onto the green. The 10th hole is straight down the hill then straight up the hill onto the green. Par 5 11th, if you can hit bombs you can get there in 2. High, long. and straight on a steep downhill par 3 12th. Right to left on the 13th. Again if you can hit bombs you can reach the 14th par 5 in 2. On the 15 th Hole hit it to the left everything feeds right on the fairway. High and true on the par 3 16th. Right to left on the 17th but watch out for the trees, but then again my brother-in-law got an eagle out of those woods. Weak 18th finishing hole but birdie is always possible. Don't go on the weekends 5 to 6 hour rounds.

I like the executive course. Its great for beginners eventhough it is a little rough around the edges. It gives you a real course feel with a chance to learn how to use your clubs and helps you work on your weak points.

This is a course that is owned by the state of NY and on the grounds of Rockland Lake State Park. In recent years as I hear it, the state hired a oustide agency to manage the course including it's daily business and maintenance.

For such a well travelled public course, this one is a terrific golf experience. Although conditions are not up to Country Club standards, the course is very acceptable.

The course winds through the rolling hills of Rockland Lake State Park with some rather pronounced rises and drops in elevation. The elevations provide some spectacular visuals of the surrounding landscape, particularly when the seasons change. The course cuts neatly through the thickly wooded parkland. The sometimes dramatic rises and falls lend themselves to some tricky shots. Up one hole, down another. Down from the tee box, up to the green. You'll be hard pressed to find a flat lie anywhere in the fairway too. If your ball isn't uphill or downhill, it's bound to be on the side of a hill. These tricky lies are an annoyance to some but an accepted challenge to most. It certainly takes patience and a great imagination for the less than orthadox golf shots presented, to excel. The fairways are kept in good shape and the greens, when kept at the proper height are very good. At times, the greens are allowed to grow a bit too long thus affecting the roll and more significantly, the speed. Some extra fairway bunkers have been installed over the last few years and have resultingly, melded nicely with the course. They offer a visual challenge and a very real challenge off some of the tees.

Walking this course is difficult indeed. A trip to the doctor for a physical is recommended before a "weekend warrior" jaunt or simply, a more prudent ride in a gas cart is advisable.

Greens fees are $24 weekdays and $31 weekends, carts extra. The prices have been increasing consistantly although I'm happy to say, the course's condition has improved along with the hike. For example, a newly constructed clubhouse was erected where the previous State Park "shack" stood. A significant and welcomed improvement.

Overall, an enjoyable golf experience. It's frustrations are outweighed by its benefits. Not a "must play," but an enjoyable round of golf nonetheless. I've rated the course a three, however I feel it's more like a three and a half. Not quite a four but much better than average.
