Shoots in the 100s

COURSE IS NOW VALLEY BROOK. Course has been redone and is in great shape (millions times better than under former ownership). Main problem is courtesy (of some pro shop staff, of many golfers). Found many to be elitist, unfamiliar with basic golf etiquette and unfriendly.

Customer Service

Very uneven. Some staff very friendly, others act as if they are doing you a favor letting you pay to play on their course.

Shoot in the 90s

This course was recently remodeled, and re-opened this year under the name "Valley Brook Golf Club." It is much, mcuh improved over the old Pascack Brook.

The course is not long; it never was. However, the remodel has made all the right additions to make it a more challenging round of golf. The final 3 holes of both 9s have been completely redesigned, with an entirely new pond built to make both 9 and 18 approach the green over water. They are both very nice holes now. In addition to the completely new holes, bunkers have been added on several fairways in just the right places to catch drives. A lateral water hazard on 13 has been enlarged to turn it into a greenside hazard.

The 6 redesigned holes have resulted in this becoming a genuine par 70, which is exactly the correct par for a short course like this. No more "silly short" par 4s (well, the big guns will think a few of them are still too short, but for "normal" guys like me, a 200-yard drive followed by a 7 iron to the green is very nice, thankyouverymuch!).

This is not a horribly difficult course, but now it has at least a real risk-reward component. Hit them straight, and you'll do well, but stray off the fairway and now there are things to penalize you. Before the remodel, bad shots weren't penalized much, except on a few holes with trees OB. And the layout is reasonably interesting, with doglegs and some unusual target-golf requirements (like the 310-yard par 4 that forces you to place two accurate mid-irons around a dogleg, rather than gunning for the green).

Because the course is new, the grass is still fragile and the landscaping hasn't fully grown in, but the changes are really, really nice. The new clubhouse is beautiful. All in all, I think I have found my new "home course."
