Shoots in the 80s
I played WS about 15 years ago and remembered a few of the holes as being memorable - 2, 17, and 18 (because of the rarity of it being a par 3 closing hole). This time (April 2004)I came back and really liked the layout, and had a better appreciation of the design. It fits my eye very well so I had no butterflies on the teebox, and I like the fact that Hogan and Snead won here. I played the tips and it did not seem that long - perhaps because some of the downwind holes were also holes where I could cut the corner on a dogleg. Speaking of doglegs, this course has some of the most interesting muni doglegs in Austin or San Antonio because of the way they wrap around Salado Creek. The fairways are wide. I played on a Saturday -- by myself - and got in 27 holes after 1:30. Not bad. The Iceman Pub is a nice touch. I will be back -- especially after the greens get better. Customer Service Good, but I tried to get drinks at the turn, and they were a bit slow, so I had to go to ten without. Similar Products Used: Is there a driving range here? If not, I did not see it. |

Shoot in the 100s
This is a cheap, easy course that is great for learning or boosting your confidence. Very little water, even less sand. Fairways are a bit rough, as irrigation is hard to come by in the area. Greens are always in good condition, and tend to be consistently fast. However, if you're afraid of the wind, stay away, as the wind is always blowing. Customer Service Very friendly staff. Once you've been in a few times, they know your name! Similar Products Used: Teaching pro is excellent. Does everything possible to simplify the game. Great burgers!!!! |
