The back nine is the most enjoyable nine holes of any golf course I have played.

This golf course is in excellent shape and is fun to golf. The layout is fabulous!

We golf this couse at least once a year. Primarily golf in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, so it's a treat to play a couse in a beautiful setting, with excellent service and in excellent shape. Not a difficult course with a straight ball and grrens are big and relatively simply laid out. Expensive, but gadgets like the GPS on the carts are helpful.

Outstanding views and variety on the holes; dramatic "signature" hole from a cliffside; great electric carts and GPS system; stunningly well-maintained course.

Fairways are too $#%! short. Picture a public course green and that's about what the fairways are like. If they're wet (which they often are when we play), it's nasty--hit it at all fat and the fairway grabs your club and does terrible things to your shot. Go too far the other way and skull the crap out of your ball. Unless you're skilled enough to pick your ball cleanly off, say, a short-nap berber carpet every shot, you might actually have an easier time hitting an iron out of the first cut of rough!! I know I did. You need just a LITTLE grass length to help the ball sit up. Also, there's one glaring oddity in the course--after 17 holes of just wonderfully well maintained cart paths, on the 18th you suddenly come to a 3-way fork where the paving on the cart path ends. You don't even know which way to go. No signs, nothing. We thought this was "under construction" last year, but this year, same thing. This is quite odd, given that the rest of the course is so beautifully designed, maintained, and constructed.

I only play a few rounds of golf a year, mainly to be with my brothers, but this is one we always try to hit at least once a summer. Just a beautiful place. Despite my caveats below, this place is not to be missed--if you're in the area, treat yourself and play it. Expensive, but worth it. You can hardly like golf and nature and not really enjoy Hidden River.
