Shaker Hills Country Club (changed from Shaker Hills Golf Course) is finally open as of Friday, 28 September 2012 and is under new ownership/management. The course has seen drastic changes since it was last open in 2011, including a brand new 18th hole, par 5. This brings the course to an overall par of 72. Other improvements include the addition of 19th hole (to be used by scheduled golfers as warm-up hole for 10 minutes), brand new 10,000 square foot 3-tier putting green, fairway extensions, bunker rebuilds, irrigation work, cart path repaving and other various hardscape improvements. The course is in prestine condition, and I highly recommend it. Prices are listed on their website http://shakerhills.com/

In my opinion, Shaker Hills is not what it used to be and it is definitely not worth $85 compared to a number of other courses in the area that charge less. I would rate the degree of difficulty as high. There are some blind tee shots and some blind or semi-blind second shots. There are a number of forced carries. The rough was deep which increased the degree of difficulty and it also meant having four players having to look around just to find one ball. This, in it self, promotes slow play. Our round took 5 hours, keeping pace with the group ahead. Unfortunately this is not outrageous for this area on a weekend. Don’t believe their claim that you should be able to play the course in less than 4-1/4 hours.

Pros:
Green were in excellent condition and fast
Fairway were in very good condition
Free range balls
Cart girls

Cons:
Rough was too high
Cart paths were outright dangerous in some spots due to un-repaired wash outs. We have had a lot of rain lately but this did not look like fresh damage.
Driving range rubber tees were in horrible condition. They looked like they had three to four years of heavy use.
They seem to have the attitude there that they don’t need my business, i.e. they have plenty of others that can afford to spend $85 a round.

Customer Service

I asked about using a voucher from previous year that I didn't get to use because they closed the course early in Oct after they plugged the greens. It was good for a weekday foursome. They refused to honor it even for just myself on a weekend.

still overpriced...junior golf rates too high..should be encouraging kids to play. needs 100yr markers and really could use 100yr and 150yr markers in middle of fairway to speed up play..all courses hould have these easy to see markers

Customer Service

starter would not give kids a price break

Played Shaker Hills Saturday 10/2/10. 5.5 hours to play. Fairways were burned out. Teed off at 11:10 finished 4:35. What a joke. This course is not as nice as advertised. Also too expensive for the shape of the course.

Customer Service

Nice People. Rangers and pro shop were nice.

Nice layout, hilly but walkable. The course is suffering from this year's drought; nearby courses are in better shape. Could use a bunker to the right off the 6th green; miss by a foot and your ball bounces off the slope into the deep woods. Picturesque rock ledges on the 18th look great from the driveway, but have no effect on playing the hole.

Customer Service

Privately owned course with members, but open to the public. They try hard to maintain the snooty club attitude, even in this down ecoomy. I was kicked off the practice green at 6:15 pm, with no one else around, because I wasn't a member, or had paid for 18 holes. Apparently the only way to improve your game is be a member, pay for 18 holes, or go elsewhere. I'm voting for the last.

the service is very nice and club house looks like new

the practice facility has free balls but hitting off mats that look like wet carpets was hard to get a ball in the air

the coarse was quite brown with very hard areas...but greens were very nice!

gas carts make for a noisy area with grounds crew always moving and they dont care to stop when hitting

Customer Service

grounds crew need to pause when hitting

Shaker Hills is one of the better public values in Mass. The course is very well groomed. The starter can be a little gruff, but the pros are great, and the bar staff are cool. The course is visually stunning. Every hole is lined with towering white pines. There are lots of elevation changes, and you will use all your best shots, and if you don't you will find this course difficult.

Shaker Hills is the best public course in Massachusetts except for Taconic (which is stupid cash without Williams credentials). The staff is great. The pace of play is great. 3-4-5 is awesome. I've never had a bad time at Shaker. Quality layout, reasonable price that includes range balls and cart. Nice restaurant and bar area. None of my friends have ever said anything but "Shaker is a great course."

Customer Service

Great. Top notch. They run this club like a private club.

Great and tough course. The conditions were perfect and pace of play was good, 4:10 on a Saturday mid morning. Also the carts are now 90 degree rule, not path only

Customer Service

Very friendly and helpful staff. The girls at the bag drop are a nice touch.
