Absolutely Horrible.Fairways & tees weren't cut lots of bare patches. Rough was overgrown. Bunkers were mud & dirt. Greens were 50%bare dirt 50% uncut grass.Cart wasn't charged died on 4th hole. Couldn't even get a beer at turn. We decided to have a 1 club tournament on back just to add some fun to an otherwise pathetic day.I gave 1 star because there's no option to put 0!

STAY AWAY from this course. The owner should be embarassed. The course is practically unplayable. Fairways aren't cut, rough is 6" high and no sand in traps. If you hit a decent drive and miss the fairway but just a bit you will not find your ball. This used to be a very nice course up til about 3 years ago when the owner decided not to maintain it. He has machines that don't work and won't fix. He needs to sell or just close it.

This course admitted that they had money problems and it showed. The grass on the tees was about 1 1/2 inches. The rough was very long and the greens were in bad condition.

Several years ago this course was in magnificent condition, however this spring when I played it, the course was in very poor condition. So before I booked my tee time I inquired about the condition of the course and in particular the sand traps and was told that the course was in great shape and the traps had been filled with sand. the only sand evident on the course was the piles of sand from last year sitting on the parking lot. The traps were nothing but dirt and rocks. The green were in very good shape but the tee boxes and fairways had a significant amout of weeds. Additionally the fairways were patchy in many places.

When I complained to the owner, his response was that he is regularly complimented on the condition of his course and If I did not like I should not come back. Rest assured I won't and would suggest to whoever reads this review that their $59350 greens fee is better spent elsewhere!!!!!!!!

Course is always well maintained. Greens are firm, fast and true. Bunkers are plentiful, and generally in good shape. Fairways are mostly wide enough to accommodate a decent shot: no tricks, no needles to be threaded. Holes do not run parallel, but present unique appearances.

A couple of holes are not well marked, and can baffle a newcomer unless with a regular. Additional distance markings showing "Yards to Water" would be helpful on several holes.

Wakefield Valley is a superior course, and by far the best in Carroll County, MD. Gets a lot of outing play, and hosts several regional tournaments during the year. Always call ahead for a time, even for a casual round. Weekday pricing is about $40 retail, but coupons and senior discounts are available.

Above average: the starter and the rangers are friendly and helpful. Pro shop staff knowledgable and open to chatting about various equipment on sale. The club also offers handicap service for a modest annual fee.

Character, variety, difficulty.

Somewhat long, some holes are really beyond most golfers to score well on.

27 of the more difficult holes you will find assembled together in Maryland as evidenced by the high slope and course rating. The course is well maintained and they are constantly making adjustments and improvements. If you keep it in the fairway, you will do ok, but if you get into trouble or spray a lot, its gonna be a long round for you. Almost all the holes are challenging, some with distance, some with features or contour, there aren't many easy ones. Somewhat difficult to find as the entrance isn't very well marked.
