Shoots in the 90s

Hi,
I'm a 15 year old on the Tuscarora High golf team (freshmen), and this course has a great junior policy. Juniors are $40 friday while adults are $59. The conditions were ok could have been much better, but the design and layout were extremely nice. Customer service was great. I will play again.

Model Reviewed: P.B. Dye G.C.

Played in August 2006. It seems the course is beautifully designed but requires improvement in maintenance. Partially scorched fareways, unseasonably aerated greens, and unreasonable mid-day watering creating lens effect and burning turf. You may want to play any other course that is better maintained even in midsummer.

The golf course is very pleasing to the eye. Very spacious off the tee. I've played there at least 5 times and the course is definately one of the best conditioned public courses I've ever played. Service is fantastic. Pace of play is top notch.

Shoots in the 80s

Overall, a well-run, moderately challenging, and visually appealling daily fee course, worth the weekday rate. Not too hard getting a tee-time. Small but adequate practice area. Teed off on time. Our group had to wait only a few minutes on just one tee and rarely saw the folks behind us. The fairways were well-maintained, rough manageable. Because many of the trees haven't grown in yet, its pretty hard to not have a shot even if you miss the fairway. Overall, the course seemed short even from the gold tees (first set up from the tips). Getting on in regulation is not terribly difficult. The challenge doesn't really start until you get on the greens. These are undulating, multi-tiered, often with sloped sides. To complicate matters, they are lightening-quick, at least the day I played. I gave up a total of twelve strokes, and eight of them were on the greens. On this course, your "B-game" will probably suffice from tee to green. But you'd better bring your putting game.

I was not that impressed. I have played it twice. If you play safe, you can shoot well... if you try aim at too many pins, you are in deep doodoo... but really not too tough of a course... It is very pretty, and it will be a much better course in 10-15 years... when trees actually are a problem... I can see if you are a poor or mediocre putter, that you could be in trouble... but if you have any short game at all, you should have many many pars...

Customer Service

excellent... but horrible food choices...

Shoot in the 80s

My favorite course I have ever played. I'm 12 years old and have fallen in considerable love with this course. Tough but fair. Rough not out of control but be careful with the speed of the greens. I have played country clubs and upscale public courses around the area including Bulle Rock (see review on that) and just love it. Condition is great(knock on wood) and it is new. Gotta love the railroad ties and the uneven lies. I am a member and I was told by Jeff Rosenburg (the pro) that P.B. Dye said this was his best work out of 40 some tries on the east coast. Staff is great and range balls are included. Putting green to get you practice before round on the speed, and a new chipping green. Range is grass with a slightly hidden bunker area at the end.

Customer Service

When they take your bags out of your car, take them away, and arrive with them on a cart displaying your tee time, its a great feeling. Great people out there!

Restaurant is spacious and nice but food is to be desired. I highly recommend Tim something (a assistant pro) for lessons, range great with many targets and sand, and a great golf shop.

Shoot in the 80s

This is a P.B. Dye course...Pete's son. He's not as subtle as his dad. Lots of railroad ties all over the place. That makes it tough, but the toughest part of the course is the greens....lots of target golf...tiered and domed greens.
I like to play it once in awhile just for a change. This is a shotmakers course. The track is new and in generally good shape. The course is run terribly, lots of backups on busy days on 10, 11 and 12.

Course is in awesome shape. Greens are very very fast and hard to read. Tee boxes were in exceptional shape, compared to other courses. Fairways were very nice and well groomed. Im a scratch golfer and i shot 80, which tells you how tough of course this is.

Shoot in the 80s

Great condition. Newer course and it shows--sapling trees, etc. Still, visually pleasant.

Problem is it really is, as they say of Pete Dye, dye-abolical. I am not a great golfer but not bad. Shoot somewhere around 85 usually and on the day I played here, shot 88. It was not fun. Slope over 130 even on a couple of the forward tees. Lots of work, blind shots, hard to figure out, etc.
