The course is a lot of fun, very fair and playable, with classic bunkering, good drainage, and in excellent condition. This is actually a Seth Raynor course, renovated by Ron Forse. The Club is a member of the Seth Raynor Society, of which my club is a member as well. Due to excellent routing in all 4 compass directions and prevailing winds, it plays fairly long. Because this is a private club, very close to downtown N.O., it is not well known. Unique to the South, if you know your golf course architecture, you will see the classic design features of courses from Scotland and N.E. U.S., including raised greens: par 3s - Biarritz, Eden, reverse Redan, Short Hole. Other features include 2 Road Hole type greens, several plateau greens, modified Spectacles and Principle's Nose bunkers, Short Cape hole with a double saucer Punchbowl green; and despite its links-style design, there is water in play on about a third of the holes. This is a good walking course, too, as the greens are close to the tees for the next hole. The course can be easily played in 3 1/2 hours. This may be the best course of its type in the State.

Customer Service

Great drinks and service in a limited area. The very large clubhouse, California Mission style, was severely damaged by Katrina and is scheduled to undergo substantial renovations in late 2007.

The Metairie Country Club golf course is a private club, approximately 15 min. from downtown New Orleans. It was originally designed by Seth Raynor; and although it had been modified over the years by several well meaning architects, it has recently been restored by Ron Forse to the original Raynor designs and standards. It has elevated greens, beautiful bunkering, and classic par 3s, e.g. Eden, Short Hole, reverse Redan. If you know your golf course architecture, you will also see versions of the Spectacles, Principle's Nose, Road Hole green, double plateau greens, and more. At 6600 yards it is a good test, fun and fair. It plays a little longer than its yardage. If you know your classic architecture, e.g. Macdonald, Raynor and Banks, it is a must play.

Customer Service

Although the clubhouse is to be rebuilt, postKatrina, the service in the ProShop is excellent, if you can get on.

Metairie Country Club is a very well-known Country Club in New Orleans. I grew up in Metairie and played there about 3 weeks ago withe visiting family. The course is in pristine condition. It has recently been re-done and they did a great job. We played from the Black Tees, which made the course long and put some obstacles into play, but overall had a great time. The greens were smooth and fast and fairways wide open and clear for the most part given a good drive. With a good drive and approach you'll be putting for Birdie all day long!
