Shoots in the 90s

Otter Creek GC is located in a rural area of Columbus, IN on outer 10th Ave. It consists of three 9-hole tracts identified as: North,(3485 yds) West (3412 yds) & East (3373 yds)from Championship Tees. Note that there is a set of "Tour Tees" should you need to add even more length! The North & West tracts are the original designs by R. Trent Jones Sr. ('64) with the East course designed by Ress Jones in '95.

The N & W courses are the more traditional layouts. The Superintendent has chosen to leave the rough very deep and beleive me at certain times of the year, you cannot see your own shoes let alone your ball from this rough. Hitting the fairway and greens are essential because there is no intermediate cut of rough or much of a collar around the greens. Fairways are cut low, but not excessive, and the greens look good and play to a medium roll-speed. If there was ever an argument to add a fourth wedge to your bag, this course is the reason. Same as the fairways, if you miss a green even slightly, your ball will end up in deep grass that will test your nerves for a chip recovery. Also, some of the holes do not layout well for a driver. An example of this is the West Course #5 (par 5)playing 512 yds. A well hit drive must be played left due to the severe fairway slope left to right. Even at that, your ball may wind up on either the up or down slope between two short, but steep hills, or even roll into the right bunker. The smart play...3 or 5 wood x 2 for a layup approach.

The East Course is more of a links style, and has the added hazard of fescue grass. #1 East is a gem of a par 4 playing 380 yds from an elevated tee. #3 is a head-scratcher of a layout. It plays 320 yds with a large pond forming around the entire front of the green. It is not realistically a drivable hole, but requires a long & clean shot down a narrowing fairway. Like the North & West Courses, the greens do not have much of a fringe-collar, so a good short game is essential on the East Course too.

Otter Creek is a challenging course, but will require you to work very hard on your mental game.

Customer Service

Generally speaking, the staff is very nice and will work to accommodate your party. An older-ranger gave our threesome grief for slow play with no one behind us, which was a first for us. Snak Bar & Pro Shop have everything that you need. Driving Range with chipping & putting greens.

Great course Simply put,the R T Jones original 18 is as good as it gets.Bunkers on every drive and on every green.A bad shot results in a bogey unless you pull off a miracle.Tough but fair. Not one gimmick on the course. Also the back nine has a par 3 called Alkatraz that is reputed to be R T Jones's favorite hole that he has designed. My favorite course in all the world.

Customer Service

Very friendly,and helpful
