Weaving through Norther Lake County wetlands, this is the flagship course of the Lake County Forest Preserve. It is breathtakingly beautiful. Only problem is, I had a wicked case of the shanks that day and the course punished me for 4 hours straight. So many holes force you to carry prairie grass that it can really frustrate the mid to high handicapper. The sheer beauty of the place makes it all worth it though.

It's a full service place, they load your cart and even clean your clubs when you're done. They really know what they're doing.

Nice track. Real good condition and great design. Gets lots of play and the greens don't always roll smooth. Great Chicago area course.

By far the best course in the Chicagoland area that I've played so far. Definitely a country club feel to the course. At just over 7,000 yards from the tips, the course is definitely a stern test to even the best players. Enjoy the fact that there is not a bad hole on this course and that all clubs in the bag are used. Further, the course has some challenging green complexes that are fast and add a strong defense element. Green fees are more afforadable after 3pm.

This course is by far the best course in northern IL. I felt as if I was playing at county club while paying public course prices. Greens are fast and smooth. Lots of mature larger trees. Water can be found all over. From the tips the course if challenging. Big hitters beware, if you don't play it back you'll find trouble, lots of it. If it wasn't so far from home I'd play it every week!

Long shot from tee

I played with my regular golfing buddies yesterday at Thunderhawk and was extremely impressed by the scenery and the condition of the course. In my opinion, it is definitely one of the best in the Illinois/Wisconsin region. There must be so much wildlife in the area. We found a weird-looking turtle the size of a small watermelon with an alligator-like tail! Later on at a different hole, we found a smaller, hand-size turtle and I almost brought it home for the kids (the wife vetoed the idea on the phone). What a fun day it was.

REQUIRED CART + CART PATH ONLY = SLOW ROUND. Its ridiculous that you HAVE to have a cart then are restricted to the cart path even in good conditions. You aren't even allowed to walk. Rounds are SLOWER due to players having to walk back and forth between their ball and the cart. Value would be greater except for this irrational rule.
