best military course i've played and i have played 7 of the top 10 including member of the usaf academy course (#1 dod course). one hole so steep they have a tole rope.

6600 yards for the Eagle course, 6900 for the Falcon course. 36 holes of golf at Eglin. The driving range actually has good grass to hit off of. They also boast dirt underneath their turf NOT SAND like everything else in northwest florida. The putting green is in need of some serious maintenance and the chipping green is awful.
The eagle course has a lot of poorly maintained greens with big patches of brown; probably some fungus eating away at it. They play like grease lightning. The fairways are in pretty good shape. The rough is cut down so that their really isn't a downside to being in the rough vs the fairway. unless you get really far off the beaten path. The holes are so close together that 20 yards seperates fairways in a good number of places. Two holes with blind tees and some 450 yd par 4's.
The Falcon course is newer and once you get off the fairway the rough is pretty well groomed. If you get 40 yards off the fairway then your in a briar patch and its impossible to penetrate to jungle let alone find an errant shot. The holes play shorter than the distance. The greens on the falcon course are in far better shape the Eagle course. Its pretty tough to find a lie that isn't on an angle. It either slopes left, right, up, or down. The fairway bunkers are almost irrelevant and the greenside bunkers are shallow. The Falcon is a far better course than the Eagle and is a great value. Although its almost not worth mentioning as the starter almost always doesn't allow you to choose the course that you play. It's a military course but it's open to civilians and located off-base. If you can play the Falcon its worth the non-military price of 30 (plus ten for the cart)

Eglin AFB golf course is open to the public. It's a bit more expensive but 40 dollars is still reasonable. There are two 18 hole courses here and I ended up playing the one under service. Long holes, wide fairways and not one single even piece of ground. You will certainly get your work in on lies. good for the money. OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
