My home course, and among my favorites. A very interesting, fun layout with plenty of challenge. Lots of variety in the par 3s, 4s and 5s: short, long, flat, hilly, greens with varying shapes and varying difficulty. Every part of your game will be tested. The native rough is ROUGH, maybe too rough when over-irrigated, but it is pretty. The course is well bunkered. If you shoot in the 90's or above, you really should be on the white tees or you will slow down play because of the many hazards and carries over water or native areas. That said, the white tees are still challenging, but they do provide a nice break in reducing distance and penalty. Choose the right tees and I think you'll have an enjoyable experience at this course.

Very good, and much improved from 5 years ago when this became my home course.

Driving range was open only on the mats a lot last summer, and the target flags were often not out there last year. Legacy recently replaced the traditional mats with a strip of artificial grass which is a big improvement, and the first I've seen in the area. The putting practice green is generous, and well maintained. The chipping practice green is very small, and not representative of the greens on the course. There is room to expand the chipping green and I hope they will consider expanding and redesigning it.

Legacy is one of the best affordable muni tracks around. Always in great condition (except towards end of season, as people do not fix ball marks on green/replace divots in fairways). The greens can be very challenging depending on pin placement. Fairly quick greens most of time. Friendly staff and excellent practice facilities, although the course lacks a bunker around the chipping green. 4-6 different tees to choose from on most holes. Fantastic views of the mountains from nearly every hole.

The only thing I might do to the course is switch the nines, and somehow resdesign the 6th hole, which is a par 5 that takes driver out of your hand. They should also cut down some of the vegetation near the waste area on that hole.

Legacy Ridge is a challenging course for experienced players. Beginners and high handicappers might not have much fun, though, because blind shots, long rough, several forced carries and plenty of sand and water come into play throughout the course.

Be sure to pick your poison carefully. From the tips the course measures over 7,000 yards with only a single par three under 200 yards; only the truly good players will have much fun back there. From the blue tees the course measuers about 6,500 yards with a slope of 135, and that's where anyone with a handicap of 12 or better belongs. From the white tees it's more like 6,000 yards, which plays relatively short at this altitude. Slope from the whites is 122.

The front nine offers the most scoring chances, with a couple of short par fours and two par threes that play only about 140 yards from the blue tees. The back nine is tougher, with forced carries on the 11th and 13th holes. Plus the par four 17th, which plays about 435 yards uphill, generally into a decent breeze.

Greens putt true, though not as fast as many courses of this caliber. Many greens have multiple tiers or large humps that put a premium on lag putting.

There are very few trees around the course, so the primary hazard for eratic hitters is the knee-high rough that borders most of the fairways. In general the fairways are very generous, but if you tend to spray the ball wildly, you'll need some extra ammo.

This is a course that needs to be played several times before you'll get your bearings. In fact on two holes (the par five 6th and the par five 11th, you'll be challenged just to figure out where the green is when you play for the first time. The 1st, 7th, 9th, 10th, 12th, and 13th also offer tee shots where the exact line of play is not always obvious. The yardage book sold in the clubhouse is well worth 4 or 5 bucks because, in addition to basic distances, it gives you distances to and over key hazards and offers suggestions on the intended line of play.

Customer Service

Getting a good tee time requires a special access card, which you have to buy separately.
