The grounds of the course were plush - remember, we're having a major drought out here this year - but you'd never know it at Old Loveland. Greens were in great shape and the fairways and rough were thick with dark green grass. There are a handful of holes with elevation changes that impact approach shots greatly (keep your ball below the hole) and place a premium on tee shot selection. Fairways are fairly wide but there is immediate trouble just beyond the edges with all the trees and the new bunkers they have added to frame the landing areas. About two thirds of the greens are primarily flat, though tilted one way or the other, and play very fast. There are about 6 holes on course that have a great deal of slope. Really enjoyed holes 14-17, both scenic and tough. Also was fun (and odd) to have a downhill 200 yard par 3 as the 18th hole - nice touch. There is nice scenery to take in with the mountains and giant homes providing great views on the back nine. We rented a riding cart but this course is walkable and probably more enjoyable that way.

Pace of play. Why does every weekend round in Colorado take 5-1/2 hours? We're not on tv people, hit the damn ball and move on!

This is as good as public golf gets in Colorado. Be sure that you play this course. The fee was only $35 per player with cart for a non-resident on a Sunday 12noon tee-time. The golf environment at Old Loveland is terrific: mature, tree-lined fairways, strategic hole routing, and outstanding ground conditions for a public facility. My round at Old Loveland was the most enjoyable outing this golf season, and I played terribly (93).
