A nice rolling layout with elevation changes and elevated tees and greens. Tight and hilly with water in play.

Kinda slow on weekends. We were behind threesomes that hit two balls on a few tees. And the two balls combined didn't go 150 yards. Then, we passed one foursome because one of their group tossed an iron in a tree in anger, and it took them 45 minutes to get it down.

Fun course. Tight driving holes, lots of variety from hole to hole. Some flat, some hilly, some doglegs, some straight. Fairways are a bit shaggy, but the greens are terrific. Firm, good pace, true roll. Undulating, subtle breaks.

Decent range. Weird range mats. Stand on rubber, hit off astroturf. They have grass tees I'm assuming they open during the week.

The layout is not too predictable or boring and course management is a premium as hitting it long isn''t always the best way to play. There is a variety of elevation changes and ball-grabbing trees that seem to come out of nowhere. Greens putt true and there is a variety of hazards that come into play on different holes.

The up-and-down nature of the course is a bit repetitive on a couple of holes. Slow play isn''t discouraged here (it appears).

This course has recently been renovated and the clubhouse may be a few more months away from being done. They have reversed the nines from the previous layout and now #18 is a better challenge as a par 4 that is short, but makes you put the ball in the best position to have a good shot to the green.

Los Robles is one of my favorite public courses in the LA area. Just off the 101 freeway in north LA/south Ventura county, Los Robles offers high quality golf at reasonable prices. A full course, Robles has plenty of hazards, water, trees, bunkers, etc. to excite any golfer into hitting the ball straight. With some of the course backing up into the side of a mountain, players are challenged with some shots off of and on to plateaus. Well groomed and equiped with a fully stocked beverage girl, Los Robles offers a great golfing experience near LA at a great price.
