Played the Bayonet in 1998 and thought the course was in good condition but I did not care for the fact that the trees were not trimmed. In 2000 I was pleasantly surprised to see that the trees had beened trimmed making the course more playable. Fairways were in excellent condition. Green speed was fast but not too fast.

Need to relax on the dress code. Turtle necks w/out a collared shirt is not permissable

One of the best deals in Monterey. Requires accurate drives (these trees eat golf balls) and a good putting touch. If you play the back tees, be sure you can work the ball both ways or you will find lots of trouble. One of my favorites. Always in good shape.

There are two courses on this former military base at Ft. Ord. Both are good courses, with the Bayonet Course getting much of the reputation and recognition. But either course you play will give a strong test of golf and some scenic views of the Pacific.

A Buy.com Tour event is slated to be played in September on Bayonet, which will bring it added exposure. And a new hotel facility is on the drawing boards scheduled to open in the next several years.

The one piece of advice to remember on either course is keep it straight. Mature trees line most fairways and off line shots produce high scores. Give up some distance if you have to, but keep it in the fairway!

Played about 2-3 years ago and remember it as one of the longer courses I had ever been on. Very rigid staff ...adamant about requiring a collared shirt for my son ($50)...but the golf was great. Former Fort Ord military course. Haunting to drive by all of the barracks where so many trained before leaving for Vietnam. Quite a contrast to the more polished digs around Pebble, Spyglass, and Spanish Bay. Large beautiful pines were a constant menace. Next to Pacific Grove, this is the best value in the Monterey area...although PG is nowhere near the course.
