Narrow fairways, wind in the afternoons, large trees, lodging on site.

Greens are somewhat slow and lack contour.

In my opinion this is a fairly challenging course. More so than it''s slope rating belies. Most of the fairways are tree lined and fairly narrow. lately the rough has been grown and is very penalizing. In the afernoons the wind blows up the canyon and makes for more of a challenge, especially on the back nine. The greens are the only area where improvements could be made. They are fairly slow in my opinion and lack serious contour. The par 3 8th hole is 207 yards from the blue tees. Into the wind in the afternoon it is a PGA Tour par 3. The par 4 5th 420 yards plays into the wind. From the back tees it look as if there isn''t anywhere to hit your drive, especially if you draw the ball. Large, and I mean LARGE Oaks and Sycamores line both sides of the fairway. If you slice your in jail, the same with a hook. par is a good score here. The 11th is a par 5 519 yarder. It plays more like 565 into the wind. It has a small layup area about 100-130 yards in front of the green with a large creek cutting through fairway behind. Uneven lies in the fairway are common here. Large trees block the approach on the right if you get to close. This course is worth the drive from the San Diego area. The course also has what is probably the best membership deal for the residents of San Diego Country Estates that you will find anywhere in the USA, much less Southern California.
