Shoots in the 80s
I played here the day before Pebble. Second group off, and we quickly played through the foursome ahead of us. My home course is tree lined, so my game translated pretty well. Take a caddie, and enjoy the walk. Top notch conditioning, very playable but of course the greens can be very difficult. My caddy was so good, I had him carry for me at Pebble as well. Not a hint of disresepct for my game or my swing, and genuinely added to my experience. Overall, first rate course all the way around. Customer Service tops. Ron, my caddy, was great. I'm fortunate to play Spyglass several times each year and it ranks as one of my favorites in Northern California. When the winds off the ocean are down the first five holes can lull a golfer into a false sense of security. The next 13 holes winding through the Del Monte Forest are not to be taken lightly. The course plays longer from each tee box than the yardage indicates and shot placement off the tee is a premium in order to have a good approach on your second shot. It's truly a wonderful golf experience to walk the course with one of the Spyglass Hill caddies. Customer Service True to form as part of Pebble Beach Resorts - the service is excellent. Unless you absolutely require a cart to play golf, it's a course that should be walked with a caddy to enjoy the full experience of playing Spyglass Hill. |

have had the priviledge of playing twice, the first time, a roaring thunderstorm late in the day, that even the locals called the worst in forty years, nearly ruined our day. But when the skies cleared at 5:45, my partner and I were the only ones left on the course, and played the back nine all by ourselves, as the skies cleared, and fog rose from the ground, and sunlight pierced the pines draped with moss....VERY NICE... One of the best i've ever played. zero forgiveness when it comes to miss hits. you really need to all your good stuff when playing here. this is the only course that has ever gotten so mentally exhausted after a round. Similar Products Used: None |

Approaches the religious experience that golf should be. A real test for even mid-handicappers. Lots of Pacific Coast beauty on display here, even though the ocean views are limited (play Pebble Beach). But hey, there's more to the Carmel geography than water. Enjoy Spyglass for what it is...a place of spectacular beauty. The course takes full advantage of the topography of the area, with uphill and downhill shots, sweeping doglegs, and long par-5's. Spend the money on a caddy, or you'll never figure out the break on the greens. I had several putts that I read with about 12 inches of right-to-left break, that the caddy told me to hit 3 inches to the LEFT of the holes. Whew! Speaking of the caddies...mine was really good, but I was a 24 handicap when I played there (I shot a 92 - and felt like I played pretty well...), and he kept deriding my shots more and more as the round went on. I'm sure it's tough for a caddie who probably plays to a single-digit handicap to be patient with a relative hacker. But I was hitting some shots that were pretty good for me at the time, and he kept telling what a crappy shot I'd hit. Come on caddies - you are in the service industry, and it's your job to make the customer feel good. This happened twice, with two different caddies, so maybe it's something Spyglass need to work on. Magical, mystical, vunderbar. I would play here forever if I could. THis is heaven. They could charge two thousand dollars instead of two hundred and people would still pay. A great value. When I die, bury me on the first fairway. The pro shop is huge and modern and first rate. The conditioning is as clean as a hospital. The course marshalls are very courteous and professional. The range is better than most putting greens. When you are finished with your round, you will run to the pro shop to pay more just because you know it was worth it. Customer Service Red carpet treatment from everyone, especially the marshalls Similar Products Used: The restaurant is five star. So is everything else |

Finally got to number one after a good driver, great 3 wood, and solid 5 iron...then dumped it into the bunker. I'm used to playing 500 yard par 5's at 4500 feet...not 600+ yards at sea level. Felt stretched to the limit on this one...partly golf and partly by the beauty of the course. Loved the fog in the pines and the deer wandering along the fairways. Very few courses make me forget the score but this one did. It's too long for most 15 handicaps to beat up on but you can still enjoy the magic...spiritual golf at its best. Share it with a friend. pretty interesting golf course. designed by robert trent jones. this course had some kind of mystique to it. greens are pretty tough and always in good condition. tees are as well. maintenance at pebble beach resort is always a premium. the course starts off with a 620 yd par 5. very fun golf course, and demanding as well. great views.
