Shoots in the 80s
Played Jan 04. A very nice municipal course. Beautiful course. No homes. Cost in the $20-$30 range to walk. There are some mild elevation changes. Easy to walk. Course is playable for all handicap levels. There are a few water carries and there is sand in the expected places. Trees do come into play on some holes. There is just enoug diversity to keep a lower handicapper interested. Tee boxes are okay. Greens in decent shape with many subtle breaks. Fairways were dormant in January and some were a bit thin. The range is small and very badly chewed up. Weekend and Monday morning play can be very busy. All in all one of the better muni courses to be found in California. Customer Service Very good. Shoots in the 80s
A great municipal course in the city of Ojai that is a comparable alternative to the Ojai Valley Inn. For less than $30 during the week, this is a very comfortable walk along green fairways and smooth greens which traverse over dry creek beds during the non-rainy season. Overall, this course is a rare find in Southern California; it is an uncrowded gem that is easily walked for an inexpensive price. While it may be far from the hustle and bustle of LA, it is well worth the drive to this scenic community in Ventura County. A four hour round can be played easily during the week, while taking in the serenity of this country community known more for its annual tennis championships (a la the "Bionic Woman"). Elevated tees, forced carries over the creek bed hazards and large sloping greens are characteristic of this course. There are some smallish greens and hidden pin locations that make the course as equally as challenging. Fairways were in good condition and the greens were in good shape. Customer Service The pro shop was well stocked and very friendly in getting players out to the first tee. No on-course cart service, but you do pass the clubhouse between the nines. Similar Products Used: Grass driving range and putting green like the course greens is a plus. The driving range has limited stalls and didn't readily see chipping/bunker practice area. |

Shoot in the 70s
This is actually a great Muni course. It has wide open fairways, but lots of big trees to punish the wayword tee ball. You're better off to miss way wide because you'll be able to play from another fairway. It's only about 6500 yds from the tips but there are a few challenging holes, depending on your skill level. The greens are better than most Muni courses... the last time I played there, they were rolling much faster than normal. It's well taken care of, especially for all the play it gets. The wknds are pretty crowded, but only because it's a pretty cool track. I highly suggest Soule for the mid 80's player and above... It's a little easy for the 70's shooter but still fun to work on your game and shoot even at the same time. It's an awesome course for the $$$... low $20's. Customer Service The guys in the shop are very nice and treat you really well. The service is always good! Similar Products Used: The 19th hole is pretty cool... the bartender is hilarious. |
