Shoots in the 80s

An exceptional resort course. Maybe not quite on a par with the very best but very nice. One of the most beautiful around. Green fairways against snowcapped Mt. Shasta. Mature pine trees line the fairways of this mountain course. Lots of diversity. Lots of elevation changes, carries, some water and sand. The back nine is a little tighter than the front. Great conditions. Greens could be a little softer, but true none the less. They have good complexity. Not good for beginners, but all others would love it. It is walkable but holes 4 and 5 are a good hike. No houses. Exceptional service. Wonderful restaurant. There are also very nice accomodations available. A must play course when in the Shasta area. Also a nice place to spend some vacation time. Price for this course is very reasonable $50 high season, $35 on the cusp. Has a great practice area and range.

Shoot in the 90s

Absolutely gorgeous scenery! Nearby Mt. Shasta LOOMS over the course. Course layout is interesting and challenging. Well manicured greens and very well-kept fairways. The rough can be rough--like rocks, on some holes. Water enhances several holes, especially short part 3s and number 9 where it's all the way along the left. Narrow fairways favor the accurate hitter, especially since the course is not long. (Very much like what we would call a "canyon course" in southern California.) Big, wild hitters may want to break out the 2-iron off the tee. The wind can big a major factor in the afternoon. (And carry a rain suit, just in case.) This course is too pretty not to play!

Absolutely everybody at the resort makes you feel welcome--even if you're only practicing all day (which I did several days). Makes you want to go back for sure. I stopped by on my way to the airport on my last day of vacation just to hit a bucket of balls. I was almost done with the bucket, when out comes a young guy with a whole new bucket. "Jeremy wants you to have these," he said. Apparently, the pro, Jeremy Dunkason, recognized me on the range tee from having taken a lesson from him four days before!

Great practice facilities--especially the chipping green that allows just about any type of chip you can imagine, including from above, from below, over 8-foot fir trees, over boulders, and even out of a small creek bed.

VERY good teaching pro, Jeremy Dunkason. His fees are about 2/3 of what you would expect in southern California. My slice is gone! Thanks, Jeremy!

Small golf shop, but it has what you need. Even the buckets of balls--which are good-quality, good-condition balls, by the way--are inexpensive, and the range lets you shoot for several different greens--not big wooden signs with numbers on them.

The Restaurant is 4-star and with a terrific view of Mt. Shasta and the course. The lounge-bar is well stocked with interesting beers and even . . . believe it or not . . . rye! (Bartenders in southern California think that rye is bread.)
