Shoots in the 80s
I played here in early February, and was not as disappointed as the prior reviewer. Factually everything he wrote is correct... it's out in the boonies, there is no clubhouse, no cart girl, you pay about 1/4 mile away and then drive to the driving range, and the fairways are pretty brown (dormant bermuda). It's safe to say this is a LOW BUDGET operation. But $45 mid-day in February? Hard to beat that rate in prime season in the north east corner of town. And there are some other real benefits. First, this is a STUNNING place to play- there are incredible views of the surrounding mountains and low-lands, and beautiful desert flora surrounding every hole. Second, the greens are in excellent shape- they roll fast and true. And the layout is quite good- there are some quirky features to be sure, but if you want a course that makes you think on your approach shot and around the greens, this is it. These are slippery, difficult putting surfaces- reminiscent of Desert Forest (i think the course designer must have been influenced by desert forest b/c the routing and general design cues are very similar). Finally, the pace of play for our round was very good, as I think they weren't fully booked. I'm not suggesting this course is on par with Legend Trail, Troon North, etc... but for the price it's a good alternative if you aren't too put off by the hard brown fairways. Customer Service The staff is very friendly and helpful. They had run low on carts (of all things) so we had to wait for one before we teed off. Overall there isn't much customer service to speak of. Similar Products Used: I've played most of the private and public courses in the area. As a value proposition, this one compares fairly to most of the others. There are some striking similarities between this course and Desert Forest (excellent greens, so-so fairway conditions, similar course design that was less than inspiring, the need for more investment in the course). The visual beauty is similar to WeKoPa, another places with few homes visible from the course. |

Open for 4 years but still does not have a club house or permanent washrooms. Fairways where sparse and it seemed like they were really stingy with the water. It makes sense why we only saw 4 other golfers all day. Layout is nothing special. Have to drive all the way over to the Tonto Verde course to check in and pay, then back track to course. In the past I have played the Tonto Verde courses and been disappointed with the value, and gave this new course managed by the same group another chance. Well they continue to under deliver but to a greater degree with course. Customer Service Unless you want Oreo cookies off the beverage cart bring your own. As I mentioned no club house or snack shack. Similar Products Used: For this amount play Legend Trail it's three times the value of Vista Verde. |
