Shoots in the 80s
This course is approximately 30 years old and when it opened, was one of the best public courses in the Southeast, due to its excellent layout and location in an urban state park, filled with wildlife. Over the years, the course gradually degraded in condition due to neglect from the state while at the same time the Robert Trent Jones Trail opened and succeeded in a huge way. In 2004, the course was closed for a renovation and it opened in January 2005. I played it on Memorial Day 2005 after the course had 2 inches of rain dumped on it in the previous 24 hours. I had not played it in 15 years and was evaluating it for a large group I will host here in November. We are going to play the RTJ courses, Limestone Springs, Ballantrae and other upscale facilities. I am pleased to report that this course is a stone cold bargain. The renovations were well done and all of the greens have been completely rebuilt and recontoured with bermudagrass. A new irrigation system and drainage system has been put in also. Public golf has gotten expensive and this facility has the following low prices: Greens fees: $15 M-F/$20 Weekends. Cart rental is $12 per person. So for $32 on a weekend, you can play a course that is in good shape, has a very nice layout with a good variety of holes. This is as good a bargain as you can find and I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who is looking for good golf on a budget. NOTE: The pro shop and restaurant will not reopen until July 2005. According to management, the original facility was gutted and will be much nicer than previously. Customer Service Unknown as the pro shop/restaurant were closed as of Memorial Day 2005. |

Not a bad course for the price. The greens are a little rough, depending on when in the year you play there. Sometimes are better than others. Overall the course is quite peaceful, and while it plays a little slow, it's not a bad place to spend a day. The price is great and quite a value, especially if you walk 18. Many challenges and some really nice holes. Similar Products Used: None |
