Pula Golf - Golf courses, Son Servera, Isles Baleares

DESCRIPTION

Pula Golf was 4 years the location of the Mallorca Classic. This European Tour event was held on this course on Mallorca because it provides certain aspects which make it perfect for a tournament of this importance. The course is 5204 m from the red + 6263 m from the white tees.Pula Golf is famous for its narrow fairways + fast well protected greens. It is not unusal that pros do not shot under par here.Especially when it was not raining for weeks, the greens went up to a stimp of 12+. This course is within 2 natural habitats with some historic ruins in it as well. There is some ponds and fountains. You start at No.1 passing some residental homes. A narrow fairway with OB on both sides brings you down to a tough green. Then you underpath the street + enter a wonderful landscape which displays the beauty of Mallorca trees, plants + flowers.2 + 3 are tough holes but a beautiful challenge.Course management will help. You are walking under the mainroad to 4.A nice par 4, with a stream all along the left + OB on the right. From the white tees you can even see the ocean!!5 requires a perfect tee shot. A huge pond to the right + OB to the left does not leave you any room for big mistakes.2nd shot is easier.Hit is right + long = par.6 is the first par 5 + it is a long uphill hole with water to the right of the landing area, bunker left and bushes. The fairway is wide open, but hit it straight, the rough here is totally unforgiving. Second shot over the water into a very narrow fairway. The green is not to big + well protected. No. 7 is a tight par four. It is all about the tee off here. If you hit long enough to find the plateau you can reach it in 2.8 is a very long par 3 which is protect by water all along the green on the left + bushess to the right, but the green is huge.9 is a nice par fife.Water along the right + a very tough approach to a well protected green which plays longer then you think.10 is a very long, strong uphill par 5.Narrow fairway, OB left + bushes right. Not many pros reach that in two.The fairway is narrow and there is plenty of traps by the green.11 is an easy short par 4, downhill with nice view + water in front of green.12 is an easy par fife.13 being on of the toughest holes on the course. An uphill par three protected by 2 large bunkers.Fast green with huge slope.Hit it long.14 is another easy par 4,you think. But the green is hard to hit. There is water + OB behind it.15 is the toughest hole on the course. Par 4 +very long. Play it as a par fife + you might be happy. 17 is a downhill par four with water on the left + bunker on the right. The green is relatively easy to hit though.17 is a par 4 uphill.Lots of bunkers + elevated green.18 is a nice par 4 towards the clubhouse.Great finish hole.It is tough course, bring some extra balls. 2 restaurantes, nice driving range + practice area.Pro shop is there. You might want to take a cart. Great views of landscape, ocean + housing.

Pula Golf is a great golf course. I must say that I work + practice here every day. I became a member 2006 (it is public)when it was at its best. At that time the course was comparable to many championship courses. Right now, the course offers a fantastic challenge for all kinds of players. You can warm up at the driving range, which provides mats + grass tees from the back. The chipping area is not in good shape + the practice bunker not existent. Both you might not need for a casual round. Putting greens are always in perfect condition. Currently I would say the tee boxes are not the best. They function, but def. they are not taken care of well enough. Sames counts for the greens, which I think are slow and full of little sand or so. Most fairways are excellent. They are cut on a regular basiss. The rough is always good + it is cut shorter now, so the normal golfer can actually find his ball + maybe play it. I think that the trees, flowers and the entire surroundings need more care but still look typical spanish and are beautiful. The ponds unfortunately are not as beautiful as they could be, meaning they would need some cleaning and care. But they are good hazards. Most bunkers are good, but some are not drained well, which makes them unplayable. There is now 2 toilet houses on the course, which helps big time. Still there is no drinks to get on the course or vending machines along the way. This is a problem with the heat on this island. It is good to play + because there is hardly anyone on this course, you can take your time and enjoy the views. Play at your own pace almost. The carts are great + have gps. They are in good shape. Pull carts are there and seem alright. The range is fine, the balls however are old and many are faulty. It just does not look good + the range would need some help as well. I would play it, but always ask for a discount. It is not worth 100 Euros in my opinion.
Pula Suites is a 5 star hotel next to it. You might get a discount staying there. Also when you stay in other hotels in the area you will get up to 30 %. Contact me for a list or info.
I love this course. It is my home course. For tourists it might not be the first choice at this point. But if you like to experience a tough course in spanish ambiente and a beautiful landscape, try it out. It will for sure challenge your game.
In regards to ammenities. There is showers ( not in great shape , but working), restaurantes and bistro etc.
My over all rating is not the best at this point, but might change over time. But I do suggest to play it because of its wonderful views and its challenge.

Customer Service

The peopel on the front desk are nice. However, they are not golfers. They do good service for what they have to do. Best service you get from the caddie master. Great young guy from Brazil. He takes care, laughs and cleans your clubs. Great experience there. The pro shop is leased out to U'S Golf. Nice chain. Service is not pretty good, prices are way to high and the selection is pour. However, you get used balls, which you might want to take for this course. Peopel in the restaurantes are very nice and do the best they can. There is not much going on which makes it tough for them.
Dieter Calbus is the PGA Pro on the course. Nice guy. I have no idea how he is teaching, but he charges about 70 Euros. You can ofcourse get a lesson scheduled with myself.

It is hard to compare this specific course with other courses on Mallorca. Simply because of the setting and because this course was made for the tournament while the others are made for the tourists.
